Anyone else see/read this? Very interesting and strange case of a guy from Michigan who has made claims of having run a number of marathons in the US over the past couple years. Only thing is that a number of folks claim he's never actually fully  run any of them, and has cheated the whole way.

Oh yea, he is a dentist in my town.  He was actually my Dentist for awhile and shares an office with my Chriopractor. Lets say he is well know among local runners.  I bet there are even threads on Runmichigan.com about him

Why would you want to say you are a long distance runner and cheat at the events?  I guess the lies and cheats are everywhere and in everything.  They should have had someone follow him at one of the races that could easily run the same speed to see if he actually did run the events.

I read the article.

Let's Run did quite the job on him!!!!

What possible motivation could someone have to pull this nonsense? is his life that empty that he has to cheat his way to marathon finish times?

I just finished the article last night...quite remarkable the amount of effort expended - first on his part (faking an entire race in Wyoming including fake race results/web site/etc) and secondly on the part of the people trying to expose him (there are usually almost 20 pictures of me in a certain event...if the event has 200 people in it - looking through all of those photos for a glimpse of someone takes some serious focus/time).

As I was reading, I kept thinking - what drives someone to do this? There is no true gain - no financial gain (he's not winning at an elite level, he's not inline for a large purse), the "emotional" gain of "I won this race" is tainted because he knew he didn't actually compete. Craziness!

I read more articles that linked from the one above and their was financial gain as he was supposedly doing this for charity, but the checks were written to his website, rather that the actually charity.  It seems he was after $$$.

So ya, I looked at some of the stuff, but then don't see me wading through pages and pages of forums threads to catch up.

Is there a cliff's Note's version... I mean is there an end to this thing?

Did he ever fess up, still doing races, anyone caught him in the act... how much money supposedly gained? I mean there is evidence, but did they ever finfd the smoking gun?

I can sort of get those that spent the time to expose him... I mean you just start at one place and then it sonwballs. And then the outcome is so flippin far fetched and unbeliveable that someone would do this that you "just have to know".
