Subject: St. Nick vs. Santa
For those of us parents who celebrate St. Nick's Eve (coming up soon on Dec. 5th-- get your shopping done!), it seems to be a yearly challenge of dealing with the questions pertaining to St. Nick versus Santa Claus. I thought this link summed it up pretty well.

SUMMARY: St. Nick is NOT Santa Claus, and Santa Claus is actually THOR. Yes, Santa Claus is an Avenger.

Man, what I wouldn't pay to see Santa Claus kick some butt in the next Avengers movie.

Santa Claus is actually THOR.

When you get down to it, it is interesting how much the English language and English culture is tied to Scandinavia and not to Latin - i.e. opposite from the majority of Europe.

There is also a theory that Santa is actually Wotan (Odin), Thor's dad.  Odin led hunting parties, and part of the Yule celebration was a solstice hunting party.

Like Thor, Odin also has a day named after him (Wednesday is Wotan's Day, like Thursday is Thor's Day)  Tuesday is Tyr's day, Friday is Frige's day, then we've got the Sun's day and the Moon's day.  Saturday is still based on the Roman god of Saturn (i.e. the Greek Titan of Kronos, father of Zeus.

Santa has a superhero movie. I just took my kids to it. Rise of the Guardians. It had some problems, but overall a good experience for one who still believes in all those figures, and one on the edge.
