Subject: I need an Olympic Torch

This year for the Nevada Senior Olympic Games in Las Vegas, we are planning an opening ceremony with a run through the city and down the strip, and thought an official Olympic Torch would be the perfect touch.

I saw a guy on Pawn Stars (right on the strip) that was trying to pawn his official torch.  I have tried several ways to find him, without luck and have turned to the people I know that have everything in their arsenal of sports toys and memorabilia, the BT people.

Anyone know where we can rent, borrow, steal, or have one for use in our games this August, September, October?

Thanks for any help possible.

I knew (of really) the guy that designed the torch for the Atlanta Games.  He was a professor at Georgia Tech.  His contribution was to make the design safer and more reliable.  His name is Sam Shelton.  He coul probably direct you to some available torches.

Several on eBay but they're asking memorabilia-type prices.

My sister has one, but I don't think she's letting it out of her house. She carried the torch when the Olympics were in SLC a few years ago.

It may be cheaper to try and find someone to fashion you something similiar than to spend $$$ on something you may never need again.

+1

My wife carried the torch for the same Olympic Games.  Hers isn't allowed out of the house, and she's VERY wary of damaging it.  I'd say by now they've either been sold by the original owners or they aren't moving.

I ran with one... down my buddy's driveway.  His next door neighbor was the NC State wrestling coach and former Olympian.  We were working on my buddy's car when his neighbor came home with it.  She was a teacher and brought it to school to show the kids.

I thought that the burning mechanism was removed from them after they were used so that the "Olympic Flame" could not be recreated.

I am bidding on one on Ebay now from 1984 Olympics, the year Los Angeles hosted and the year I got married in Los Angeles.  This would be a nice coup.
