Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: Forget term limits How about age limits for Congress. I read the other day that Diane Feinstein will be in her nineties by the time her next term ends ( provided she wins of course). I always thought she was in her 60s! I looked at the age of the people in our Senate and was shocked how old some of these people are. Let's cut em off at 72 and send them out to pasture. Anyone agree or am I discriminating based on age? Edited by mdg2003 2017-10-12 11:08 AM |

Some people remain sharp as a tack well into their 90s....while other get somewhat dull in their 60s. But you point is not totally off...they say Reagan had started to show the preliminary signs of old age dementia if not Alzheimer's in his last year or so in office. Sharp and rapier-like wit when he was running for his first term......but 8 years changes things. BTW, there is nothing wrong with age discrimination. Happens all the time in our country. You must be 21 to buy beer in most states even though at 18 you are a legal adult who can be sentenced to death or life in prison or sent off to war. You have to be 18 before you are considered wise enough to vote. You have to be under 35 to join the army. (not sure of this age but there is a limit) |

While some were surely more aware than others......I wouldn't describe anyone I have ever known in their 90's as "sharp as a tack"....and physical limitations is another area where they aren't keeping up either. It's 90......it's not the new 60.....ITS FRIGGIN 90!!!!!!! It's 8 years past a normal life expectancy. Don't make ANY decisions for me at that age......please. Hell, the fact that someone still WANTS to work and make decisions at 90 tells me they don't have all their faculties any more. Edited by Left Brain 2017-10-12 12:31 PM |

Pro 6838 Tejas | Subject: RE: Forget term limits Kind of what I was thinking too. The government mandates that commercial pilots retire at a certain age, insurance companies discriminate, by age, the list is endless. But more importantly, I think as we age we tend to change our views on many things. Then at a certain age (somewhere past 65 or so), I think we tend to cement our views and beliefs; then we no longer accept change or are willing to accept new ideas. I feel a lot of our more senior elected officials have hit a point in life where they decide that they are right in their ideals and are no longer looking to bend to accommodate anything else. They are still sharp and focused, but just no longer pliable! It sure explains the stick up Johnny Macs backside... |

I had an great uncle on my mother's side who was a Jesuit.....he was the oldest living Jesuit in North America when I went to a ceremony 10 years or so ago honoring him for 75 as a Jesuit. He lived to be 98 or 99. And while he slowed down some in the latter years he still had his memory in tact...and much wisdom. I plan to die at 75. I absolutely cannot stand this guy! But he makes a lot of statements that I completely I agree with: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/10/why-i-hope-to-d... |

I haven't thought about how long I want to live, but these days I often wish I at least live long enough to be a burden to my children. |

Dude, you can die once your kids are done with you and not a minute before. |
