Subject: Flexibility Challenge - NOVEMBER

Here is how it works:
1. Choose 1 or more activities: Stretching, Pilates, Yoga (open to suggestions for others)
2. Set a goal either in number of sessions or/and minutes.
3. Set your start date and number of days in November it will last (through November 30)
4. Log your flexibility under the sports section of your training log (there are options for stretching, Pilates, and yoga).  Start increasing your flexibility!

We’ll record the finals goals met by percentage.  If you are doing multiple activities you’ll average the percentage of each activity to reflect the overall goal met.  If you are recording one activity by both time and sessions, then average the percentage of both before averaging each activity.  Below is an example of how to record it (this was taken from my participation in the October Flexibility challenge.)

     October 4 – October 31 (27 days)
Activity          Actual             Days   Goal                Goal met
     Pilates:         1h 46m          5        8 days           62.5%
     Stretching:    5h 47m          15      9h/27 days    64% time, 55.5% days=59.75%

     Total Goal Met: 61%

OPTIONAL: To make this challenge a little more motivating to participants and beneficial to others, I’d love to make pledges for donating to a charity for those who don’t meet their goal.  Of course this is not mandatory.  Any ideas for charities?  (My first thought was the general fund of www.worldvision.org – they “work with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.&rdquo

We could have a tier system for donations/meeting goals as well.  If you meet 50% or less or you goal you donate 100% of your pledge, if you meet 51-79% of your goal you donate 80% of your pledge, and if you meet 80-99% of your goal you donate 50% of your pledge.  Let me know your feedback.

Now let’s get started stretching!

If you want to participate, just copy and paste.

Activity          Goal

Start date:
Number of days:
Pledge: (optional)

Here are my goals:
Activity          Goal
Pilates:         8 days
Stretching:    5h 30m/22 days
Start date: November 1, 2006
Number of Days: 30
Pledge: $50

So that works out to be Pilates 2 days a week, and stretching 15 minutes, 5 days a week.  I think that's do-able.

Haha! I'm glad you joined me instead.  How does an ipod hook up to shoes anyway?

Your goal sounds very reasonable.  If you get behind, it will be doable to catch-up by stretching every day.  In October, my goal was a bit over zealous, and I never did recover from my lapses and busy-ness.  Happy stretching!

Hey, this seems much more sophisticated than the other flex challenge. I'm in! Since I totally missed my goal last month, I'll just keep the same one.

Activity: Yoga Goal: 3x wk

Start date: 11/6
Number of days: 'till the 30th
Pledge: (optional) I bought a christmas tree that benefited a church. Does that count?

Well, I'm a bit behind in my goals with only 50 minutes of stretching for the last 7 days and no Pilates.  But I'm sure that I will catch-up since I'll have plenty of time in the evening this week at my hotel when I can watch TV, stretch and do pilates.  I guess it helps that I'm a pilates instructor so I can do it pretty much anywhere.

Any one who is interested is still welcome to join!  Happy stretching.

Subject: 67% Total Goal Met!

Here are my final stats.  Considering that I was out of town about half the month and sick the other half, I'm okay with the results.  I think now I've developed the habit of stretching.  That's the ideal.

Start date: November 1, 2006
Number of Days: 30

Activity        Actual           Goal        Goal met
Pilates:         4 days          8 days       50%
Stretching:   5h 48m        5h 30m    105 %
                    14 days        22 days     63% = avg 84.5%

Total Goal Met: 67%

Pledge to be fulfilled: $40 (80%) I'll get right on that

It's been fun!
