Subject: Viewing other logs error from hyperlinks

Ron/Mike,

I'm setting up a spreadsheet for the Dec swim challenge and I'm noticing that when I use a hyperlink to view the Actual Calender log for some people, I get a login error that says I need registration. It's seems to be happening on about 50% of the hyperlinks I make. Also I'm finding the same issue clicking on hyperlinks other teams setup in their log/threads.  Is it me or them?  For each individual I can see the log when I go into it from a thread (Logs), so it's not happening from that route.  I can also copy the link and paste it in from my log and it'll go to the log. I'm using Mozilla Firefox, latest update.

can you email a couple examples to [email protected]?

Examples of ones that work vs. ones that don't would be helpful.

Mike,

I sent you a spreadsheet with the hyperlinks in yellow that error.  Thanks.

I've been able to reproduce this, but only when clicking on links from within Excel. And it is an Excel thing.

It's happening only for those people in your spreadsheet who don't have "Allow guests of the site to view any logs you have made public" checked in their privacy settings. What's happening is that the request from Excel to the BT web server for the training log data is being made without first checking to see if there's a cookie on your computer with an authenticated login to BT.

The box I tested this on has Excel 95. I'll be able to check it with a newer version later. How old is your version of Excel?

Mike,

This is weird because I've been doing spreadsheets just like this for many a challenge this year and this is the 1st time I've run across it.  But it is also the first time I've done a challenge since I switched to Firefox.  As for the version I use, I've been using Office XP (2002) for years.  I don't think I have implemented any updates during the year but who knows with MS auto update.

Thanks for your help.

Dude, I love that quote in your signature line, so true!

Yup. When I set IE to be my default browser, it works. But not with FF.

I'll play with the settings in FireFox and see if there's something in there.

Now it works for me.

Try setting IE back to your default browser, then reset FF as your default. I had the SS open in Excel the whole time. I had sessions of both browsers open too. Don't know if that's relevant, but it may be. This is an odd one.

Mike,

I somehow missed you last reply.  However, it all seems to work now with FF the default without changing anything.  Did you guys perform some magic?

Nope, we didn't change anything. It's definitely an issue on the client with how and when a login cookie is being checked for when clicking on a link in Excel. There's no way for us code something that would govern that.
