I'll be starting the "Oly 2x Balanced" program on Monday Sept 13.   I may end up doing extra workouts but the 2x weekly is the minimum I need to hit and I didn't want to commit to the 3x and not be able to hit my workouts.

I have reached the point of "faster vs longer" and have decided on longer for 2011.  I'm going to do this 16 week Oly program, then in Jan/Feb will transition into a 20 week HIM program to be ready for a mid-June HIM (most likely Patriot, perhaps Mooseman)

I did my first sprint in mid August and jumped into this plan for the last 5 weeks before my first OLY which is next Saturday.   I was able to slide in and make it work.  It focused my workout plans and I was able to reduce my times on several segments of my normal workouts.   It seems a bit heavy for the final week and I have a couple of sore muscles, so I'll back off a tiny bit in the next seven days, but I feel totally ready for the distance.  I found it helpful to be able to rely on this plan versus making it up as I go.

I actually have my first race ever, a sprint, in 4 weeks time but my fitness levels in the 3 disciplines are up to starting an olympic prog.

I'm going to try to do as much as 3x bal but often miss a workout or two so I'm hanging out here.
This way I'll be top of the class instead of bottom lol.

Yeah it does. I even did a race distance S/B/R run through a couple of weeks ago. It took it out of me and I was wrecked for a few days but I did it.

Hi everyone.

Race prep was going fine until I got a touch of the flu. Still training but feel like I'm dragging a truck tire behind me when I run. Another couple of days then the laziest taper week ever is on the cards methinks, lol.

Nah, you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about speed or the flu, it's your first one, so just enjoy the experience! Have fun, make a few friends, revel in the fact that soon you will be a competitive triathlete!

I just started s/b/r one year ago.  I started with couch to 5k, then a Sprint plan.  Did two Sprints this year .... I am slow but had a blast!  I just completed a 10k with an 11:20 m/m avg.  Next year I am planning on a Sprint in April and then one or two more ... either Sprints or Olympic if I can work up to that.

My goals are to move from jogging to a slow run  (from around 12m/m to as close to 10 m/m as I can get.)  My limiter is that I just started learning to jog last year, and I am 52 years old.  However, at my jog pace I can go a long time.  My farthest jog session was 4 miles walking, 9 miles jogging, then another 3 miles mixed jogging/walking.  Took me 4 hours but I felt great.

I would like to do a 1/2 marathon next spring which is why I chose the run focused plan.  However, the plan will not get me the miles that I need.  Should I find a running plan (maybe Hal Higdon? sp?) and try to adapt it in to the Oly plan?

Or am I taking too big a step up at one time?

Welcome! I suggest you decide what your most important race is, and build a training plan for that race. Doing a half marathon while training for a triathlon will be hard, as you will need a lot more time to recover both from your long runs and from the race. It's not out of the question, but it does make things harder.

Hi Dee. I see what you are saying about using the Oly plan...that is fine if you are comfortable with it. I wonder why you aren't using a plan to lead up to your race? I would suggest starting the plan 20 weeks out from your race rather than having the plan end a week or two before your race. You can repeat the first week twice or just start a week later to make sure the plan ends on your race day.
Once you finish that first race, you can take a week off from structured training and then do the last two-three months of the plan again to get to your first Oly.

Hey mate,

My race was only 400m/9.3 miles/2.5 miles but it was just that I was at the stage of starting an oly prog about a month ago.

I'm actually trying to follow a 3x plan but usually miss at least one workout. Maybe I should jump ship to the other thread.

I must admit that I don't think 2x is enough. It certainly wouldn't be enough if it was stand alone swim, bike or run.

I'm starting the oly prog from scratch as I've had a quiet few weeks. I'm doing the one that mrbbrad posted in the 3x trhead, though with a couple of modifications to better suit my other life, so I'll go and introduce myself there and say goodbye here.

I am currently doing the 16 week sprint plan until then and loving being back training. I hope this thread hasn't died yet and hope to talk to others doing this plan.

My weakness is my lack of swimming tecnique but currently working on that. I would like to purchase my first wetsuit over xmas and would like to know some good suits on a budget for first timers. I live in a country town and don't have any access to shops with any.

What is everyone wearing?

Welcome!! You and I can keep this thread ALIVE, lol!
My first wetsuit was a Promotion suit. They are pretty economical. Xterra frequently runs good sales on their wetsuits as well.
