Beg, bribe, or coerce someone to be your team captain.

Let me know who it is.

Thanks!

Any takers for the team captain?

Some background info:

I'm Erica.  I am 29 and this is my first year in tri's.  Loving every moment of it thus far.  I have one more sprint this year.  I have a half marathon in October for my final race of the year.  Well, maybe not final but it's my biggest, most intimidating one!  I'll probably through in a few 5k's and a 5 miler as well in November.  Umm, I have three wonderful kids (7 y/o girl, 5y/o boy, 4 y/o boy) and am married to a submariner in the US Navy.   They keep me super busy.

I guess that about sums up my life right now!  Let's hear about you!

I nominate Erica for Team Captain! After all, she started the team thread and already made a nice team roster for us!

My intro: I'm Jenny, 46 year old Stay at Home Mom of 3 (ages 7, 9, & 11). This was my third season of triathlon. My "A" race this year was a Half Ironman in June, and I've pretty much been coasting since then (there were also extenuating circumstances over the summer that interfered with the time I had available and my motivation to train as well...) I'm registered for Eagleman 70.3 in 2009, and that will be my A race next season. Running is my weakest of 3 weak links - LOL!! I plan to focus on running for the fall before I get back into full-on tri training sometime around the first of the year. I'll be doing half-marathon in late November - hoping to break 2 hours - wish me luck!!

p.s. I too wondered what a Gorlock was, so I looked it up on the Webster University Website:

It is reported to have the paws of a speeding cheetah, the horns of a fierce buffalo and the face of a dependable Saint Bernard. The myth of the Gorlok "embodies the highest standards of speed, agility and stamina in an atmosphere of fairness and good conduct."

Sounds pretty good to me (except maybe the part about having a face like a Saint Bernard...)! Here's what they apparently look like:

I second the nomination for Erica as team captain.

Who am I? A 44-year old wanna' be athlete. I've done triathlon for about 5 years now, completed several sprints and olys and 3 half ironmans. I am training for IMFL, and if I survive the next 2 months, I should be on the beach at Panama City on Nov 1 as a finely honed racing machine (in my mind anyway).

I live with my husband, our chocolate lab, and two kitties in Madison, MS. We are VA natives, though (and pining to return home). I work for an aerospace company writing proposals. Yeah. Fun.

I picked the running challenge because, for whatever reason, my running has become slow and painful. It used to be my strongest sport, and what I did before I did triathlon (I've done 14 marathons because I love marathons!). So, I figure a good ol' kick in the patoot should get me going again.

Anyway, this is my first challenge, and I really look forward to doing this with everyone.

Hmmm, I was looking for volunteers for captain, not nominations!  Smile  Okay, I guess I'll do it.  Let's hope we hear from the rest of our team soon!  Where are you Gorlocks!!!  Oh yeah, it's not September yet!  Can you tell I'm excited to rock this challenge?

I'm ecstatic to be part of this group!

My name's Roo! I'm 19 and going to be 2nd yr in college! I know a youngin' right? Well, I'm still fresh into the sport as I did my first tri in feb. Two tris and one 10k so far! I LOVE night runs, esp midnight ones! College will pretty much start late in september, so I have more time to run! Would really love to improve my mile runs and get back to <6.50min/mi when in highschool which is why I picked this challenge!!!

Looking forward to see what unfolds ahead of us!

The summer did fly by for us too.  I always loved the first day of school as a kid.  Love it as a mom too!

I'm up for 4.5 miles today and praying the Garmin doesn't crap out on me again!  How about you guys?

Actually, no run today...but never fear, the miles will be there. About 7-8 tomorrow. Looks like Gustav may force me on the dreadmill. Ugh.

Got new running shoes today.  I am always a bit nervous when it comes to new shoes.  That might be why my old ones are so worn.  Even the dude at the running store was like 'whoa, these are beat to death.'  I would have just gotten the same ones I had but asics had to go and discontinue them.  Thanks!  So, I am the proud new owner of some Addias Supernova Cushion 7.  I hope they are good!

I got a little "recovery" run in today - little over 4 and a half... Longer miles to come later in the week. Erin - I'm planning on shopping for new shoes tomorrow! I know it's time... when my feet start complainin' to me - time for new shoes.

Keep on runnin', Gorlocks!

Wow, it looks like everyone has some new shoes or is planning on buying new shoes.  Sweet!  I'm trying mine on the treadmill tomorrow so if I don't like them, I'll return them.  I am hoping to like them lots.
