Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't have any experience with the Travel Trac, but I do own a CT which I value on par with my bike. It has become to me simply an indispensable training tool, as my logs indicate. It's quite simply as close to a "real" road-riding experience as it gets-- with the addition of having tons of real-time data right in front of you. |

New user![]() | ![]() I have never used a CT, but I did get V3 last weekend. It lets you see any type of data you need; speed, cadence, power, heart rate (if you have one), slope (up or down). It lets you save data to look at later, plus the Real Ride feature lets you ride a videoed course as if you were really riding on one of several of Europe’s best riding roads. The unit comes with one real course and others can be purchased, but they run $30 to $45 each. I have only rode mine 4 times, but I have enjoyed the workouts. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() is it a pretty quiet unit?? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not ready to make the purchase, but did look into it when a friend was - and given the cost of the real axiom courses, and that they are mostly european, I think it won't take long to end up spending just as much. from computrainer:
I have decided to wait until I can get a computrainer (unless I get my gym to get them |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() for the CT - "unlimited courses" does that mean they're free?? I don't think so because when I go to their web site, they seem to be charging as well $99 per video....(http://www.computrainer.com/rm_inc/sales/realcoursevideo_order.html) |

![]() | ![]() big joe - 2008-03-05 6:16 PM for the CT - "unlimited courses" does that mean they're free?? I don't think so because when I go to their web site, they seem to be charging as well $99 per video....(http://www.computrainer.com/rm_inc/sales/realcoursevideo_order.html) yeah that means they're free. there are literally hundreds of different things to ride, really far more than you will ever do. if you ever get to ride a computrainer you'll get a chance to see these programs. the program you see for $99 is something new they have just started selling. they went out and videotaped entire courses so that people that like to ride 3d courses can have better video to look at. i'll pass on that though even though its probably far better than the graphics in the normal 3d courses. IMO, the greatest benefit of a CT is using it in the ergo mode. you can write you own porgrams and have it do what you want, for example, i may want to have a program that warms me up for 10 minutes at 150 watts, then jumps to 275 for a minute or two, then back to 175 for 5 minutes, its limitless. you can custom tailor the wattages as you get stronger. ergo mode is good because no matter what gear you are in its gonna make you spin against whatever watts its set on. another alternative are the Ergvideos. these take real video shot from a helmet cam and then slave the CT to whatevers going on on the screen. if the guys in the group get up out of the saddle to sprint, you feel a corresponding increase in effort as the watts climb. i used to watch tv while i was on the trainer, now i can't get my eyes of the monitor because i'm interested in what the riders are gonna do. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I picked up a Real Axiom last month. Like it so far, have a little more than 100 miles on it. Pros: Power readings (first time I've been able to measure it) Pretty easy to use Easy to set up new courses Cost less than a CT Cons: Would like to be able to set a course/train based on time (only does distance and you have to complete to save) Could be quieter |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have the V3 - my second year - over 800 miles on it - I like the fact that you can ride what you want...short, long, hills..spin...etc and you get the feedback. I have a lot of the climbs on DVD - l'Alpe D'huez, Courcheval, Bondone, Venoux etc...they are great. I also have the WC courses for Madrid and Verona..they are shorter and less hilly. Overall - the tension provided is enough but I understand that after 7%, even if it says 10% on the incline you are maxed at the 7% - they are working on a fix. You can race yourself...best time or there are a couple of courses with a champion ( Damiano Cunego I believe is the rider) so the motivation is there! It definitely relieves the boredom of trainer rides and the variety to make riding a trainer actually something I want to do. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to provide input to your decision.

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a Tacx I-Magic and have used it for the past four years without any issues whatsoever. It is a very versatile unit that can be used with the Tacx VR software, Real Live Videos, Netathlon software, etc. There are also competitive leauges that I compete in during the winter time that really helps keep me in racing shape throughout the year. Now that we are in Daylight Savings Time, I won't use it very much, but will start again in the fall. If you can find one (they have been replaced by another model that has many hardware and software issues) they are competitive with the Real Axiom. You can usually find them on eBay or online. Here is a link to the Tacx League. www.virtualcycling.org Edited by rventuri 2008-03-10 11:04 AM |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() you can often get the Real Axiom for $659 on Performance, and the CT is $1300-1400. The Axiom comes with 14 preset courses- that's enough to get me started. I have to decide if it's worth it, this late in year do I lay out the cash??? Wingsfan: when you program your own course, can you input altitude and grade and all of that other good stuff? I'm horrible on the hills and would love to program some hillier rides. |

I'm horrible on the hills and would love to program some hillier rides. Yes, it is very simple, just enter segments by distance and associated grade in a little spreadsheet like table. You can program it with one row that is one long steady hill or have as many elevation changes as you want over whatever distances you choose. I've also seen on their web site people talking about converting their Garmin courses to a .cvs file and copying that into the Real Axiom interface. Haven't tried that myself yet. As stated above, my understanding is that a 7% grade is the limit where resistance stops increasing. |

Thanks In the forum on RealAxiom's web site. Do a search on Garmin and it towards the top of the results list. It describes the steps. You also might want to take a look at mapitpronto.com that is mentioned in the same thread. Their main page says they do both Garmin upload/downloads and support converting a mapped course to RealAxiom's format. |
