Welcome to the March Challenge....

Welcome to the biker group that all others fear - the scary Gingerbread Angels.

Their fierce rivalry with the Big Biker Bunnies leads to several clashes with disagreements over the best equipment, the best skills and the best colour, all serious matters.  (yes this is a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously)

Your team line up is:

1. dimplespoo

2. dragoman

3. Fred Little

4. KathyG

5. kimmitri408

6. miche033

7. O2BFast

8. peto_primo

9. sdbryant

10. sledge

Please take the time wherever you can to get to know your team members through team chatter here and inspires on their logs. The more motivation you can give each other, the higher chance you wont be declared  marshmallows at the end of the month! (I mean who doesnt like some team support to get them going?)

You need to chose a team captain and I will drop back in the next couple of days with a spreadsheet for you to use to track your team results. I will set up a teamcaptain/ leaders thread for each team to check in everyweek.

As mentioned in the original post reporting weeks for the challenge are as follows:

Week 1: March 1 - 9
Week 2: March: 10- 16
Week 3: March 17 -23
Week 4: March 24-31

Please make sure your logs are up to date at the end of each week, and don't forget to report your weekly results to your team!

You can increase your individual goal anytime throughout the challenge, just make sure your team captain knows of the change so they can let me know in the weekly check ins. I will post an update on the challenge in a thread each week and let your team know when it is ready... I make these on a separate thread as its a good chance to mention how great you are going to the other teams!!!

In case you missed it there is a loosing penalty for this challenge:
1) If your team looses the Peep Wars then you will be required to change your avatar to a Peep/Marshmellow for the month of April
2) If you fail to meet your personal goal in the Peep Wars, you must add a signature line that declares " I am a marshmellow and need to harden/toughen up!" for the month of April

FINALLY... this is a competition so feel free to drop in on the other teams with pictures, comments and banter - they will probably do it to you!

So I suggest you introduce yourself to your team below with information like your training history, upcoming goals, family life.. whatever you like to share.. and THEN... RIDE YOUR BIKE! Im sure no one wants to end the month as a Peep, or a marshmallow!

Happy cycling
Cat

Gingerbread Angels...I love it!  Hi team!  My name is Kim (or Kimmi..actually I'll pretty much respond to anything that starts with Kim, lol).  I'm in for 75 miles this month.  I'm training for my first sprint tri in June and just got a new bike a few weeks ago, so I'm looking to do some serious miles on it in preparation.  I'll be kicking off the month with an indoor tri, so hopefully it will be an awesome start!  Go Angels!

Good luck and hard riding to everyone!

Hey everyone,

I'm Cheri, and I signed up for 12 hours this month.  Kim or Kimmi, , what kind of bike did you get?  Have you had it out yet, and do you love it?

I'm Kathy and live in MA with 3 of my 5 kids and husband. Our twins started college last fall.

I'm training for my first IM in July IMLP. I love to ride and really can't get enough of it. I hope to ride 4000-4500 miles this year. This is my 5th year in tris. I'm a pretty unbalanced ability wise triathlete do great on the bike, MOP for those I compete against on the run, and BOP usually on the swim even though I train balanced...just my strengths/weaknesses.

I'm in for 400 miles. Weather here in MA can be frustrating and effect my riding. I do ride outside if it is above 20 and only little ice & mostly dry roads on the road. But if I do trainer rides my mileage is less..my coach give me two workout options in and outside for all bikes.

Last two months I have ridden 320-340 miles so 400 will be a bit more hopefully weather will be kind to me.

Hi, I'm Scott.

Working on building a good base and trying to finalize plans for the year.  Basically, in March I want to exceed what I have done in the first 2 months of the year. 18:45 for the challenge vs 17 something YTD.

As with SLEDGE, I am looking forward to DST and hoping to take advantage of that and get some outside rides during the week.

Hi everyone !

My name is Fred. I am relatively new to biking. I just started biking in November. I am training for the Timberman 1/2IM in August. I am doing a relay where I will be the biker.

Happy riding everyone. Hopefully it warms up here so I can ride outside

Hi GA's!

I'm Rebecca. I've signed up for 130 miles. I'm doing a half marathon (my first) on March 16, so running has taken over my workouts, and I'm tired of it! I don't know how much biking I'll fit in before the half-mary, but I'm looking forward to it. I think biking is replacing my first love, swimming.

Happy cycling!

Hi everyone. Happy Friday!!! My name is Sarah and I'm starting my second year of triathlons. I'm a decent swimmer (by newbie standards), am able to suffer through the bike, and suck at running. I just finished my first ever half mary in January and am taking it easy running to let a knee injury heal, so it's time to focus on the bike. My worst enemy? Hills!

Oh, Kathy, I was SOOO happy to see that I'm on your challenge team! I see your posts pop up once in awhile and you are so inspiring. Thanks!

Hi Everyone -

My name is Stacie. I just got done with the run challenge in Feb and am looking forward to another great month. I haven't done a tri before but am hoping to get into Du's this season since I have to learn to swim before I can do a tri. My goal this month is small - 8 hours - because I am just getting mojo back to work out and haven't been on the bike much in the past months.

Look forward to a great team and a great month.

Stacie

Rebecca, I can relate to being tired of the run training.  I'm doing a half mary on Sunday (not my first), but I am so ready to start biking more.  In fact, I'm going out this afternoon just because it's a beautiful day here, I have the afternoon off, and I shouldn't run this close to the race!

Sarah, that is so sweet of you...glad you are on my team too...challenges are a great way to get to know many new folks on BT.

Whoo hoo 1/2 Mary in January..hope that knee injury heals up quickly.

Hills...gotta love them as they make you stronger. Question what type of cassette do you have on your bike...# of teeth on biggest and smallest ring in back? Many folks ride with a cassette that doesn't match their ability which makes hills harder. I have a 12-27 which makes hills easier and I can keep my HR in control going up hills. Just a thought as many bikes come with tight cassettes that are harder. If you have 25 or 23 as your biggest cassette you may want to consider getting a new one for about $60 and it can make a huge difference.

Hi Kathy,
I have heard about the hills at Timberman. I have ALOT of work to do outside. I have just spent most of the winter on the trainer. But, I am very excited about biking. I have been a long time runner and biking has added so much more to my training. Now if I could swim I would be able to do the whole package.

Ditto, Kathy! Bummer about having to go private. Let us know here how you are doing!

Sarah, you can learn to love hills. I love going down them, at least. And I like when I´m going up one that´s not too crazy and I can stand up and push those last couple hundred yards to get over the top and start down... that´s an awesome feeling.

I also suck at running... won´t learn to love that, i´m afraid.

Rebecca..you could learn to love running..really I did.

When I first started running I ran at night so no one could see me. I despised it. I felt so slow, fat, and just was hard. You know now I love it and am sad when I can't run. I've gotten faster, but that isn't it I just like how it makes me feel and the zone I get into when I do it.

I too love downhills. I've hit 52 mph going down hill (don't tell my husband) while riding in aero and dropping guys. I decided to do IMLP while riding the course and there is a 5K down hill and while descending I decided for sure I want to do this race cause I get to ride this down hill x2.

Thanks for the kind words!

Hey Cheri!  I got a Specialized Dolce and I really like it.  I have ridden it a few times, got clipless pedals a week ago and am now in the re-learning process of figuring out how to ride with my feet ATTACHED to a bike, lol!
