Veteran 144 Tucson | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Hello team! Might as well introduce ourselves. I'll start... My name is Dave and I'm currently living in Tokyo though I hail from the states. Training right now for IM Japan (my first). Looking to merely survive the experience and learn a little more about myself in the process. Should be an interesting month. So we're tenacious? Good. Turtles? At least they've got a hard shell... What kind of help, banter, encouragement, cheering, prodding, etc shall we provide each other? |

Master 1210 Saskatchewan | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Howdy turtles! I keep on thinking of the chocolate & nut kind....mmm....chocolate. At this point, strength training will benefit me the most so it's a top priority. Second priority is running with the half marathon three weeks away. Third priority is biking once I can get on the road - I need to build to half IM distance by triathlon camp on the May long weekend (7 weeks away). Lastly, but still important, is to do my time in the pool. CHALLENGE GOALS Here's a turtle with some attitude looking all tough... |

Elite 4504 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Good Afternoon Turtles... I'm Justin. I live in Columbus Ohio and I am starting my third season in the triathlon world with hopefully taking on my first HIM in August. April is the start of my 20 week training plan and hope that this challenge makes me keep to my goal and keep me on track with my training. I have competed in a couple challenges before and thankfully have met the goal each time. I am still recovering from a hamstring tear which put me into PT for all of January and February and part of March. Things are coming a long nicely and really hope that it doesn't infringe on my progress. Alright... Looking at my plan and what I submitted to the main challenge board... Here is what I got Run: 375min (6.25 hrs) Bike: 740min (12.3 hrs) Swim: 160min (2.6 hrs) It is going to be a lot and I really hope to make my goals. I look forward to hearing from you and know that we will have a great April. |

Extreme Veteran 665 Vancouver, British Columbia | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Hey I'm Jeni. Out of Vancouver. Finished my first sprint this month and looking towards my first Olympic this summer. I can complete the distance but I want to complete the distance well!. I LOVE the bike. I have a background in swimming as a kid, and am learning to appreciate running after tearing my ACL last year. Swimming is the most like "work" and running takes a bit of motivation to get out there but I love it when I do and I shamefully procrastinate on my core and strength work so I never get around to it. Thus my goals for the Month!! Swim: 25,000m Run: 70km including a 10km race on April 20. Strength/core: 6 sessions (1hour weights, 30min core)

Expert 1112 I'm a Tennessee girl living in SoCal. | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Hey fellow Turtles! My name is Melissa and, as my location (<-- over there) says, I'm a Tennessee girl living in southern California. Between 2001 and 2006, I had lost nearly 140 pounds and was doing distance walking -- generally 9-10 miles for my long walks. Unfortunately, about 2 years ago, I began to have some major back issues and ended up having back surgery last year. In the 18 month process leading up to, and recovering from surgery, I regained about half of what I had lost. So, now that I'm healthy again and have been given the go ahead from my doctor, I'm on the road to lose the weight again and regain my fitness. I originally signed up for 50 miles on the bike and 30 miles of wogging (walking/jogging), but I may be potentially changing that. I signed up for my very first tri today (Subaru Women's US Triathlon), so I asked for some input from my mentoring group (I'm in the same one with Jen) about when I should start my training plan for the event. I've got plenty of time until the event since it's in mid-October, so I could potentially wait until after the April challenge to start my training plan since it's 22 weeks in duration. |

Pro 4541 A farming town in MN | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Cool...I'm actually doing the Turtleman tri again this season... Alright...introductions... My name is Sal...I'm a BT addict, but trying to spend less time on here.... Ran HS track (mile and 2 mile), and biked everywhere when I was a kid. I have always wanted to do triathlons (since the Dave Scott/Mark Allen days), but didn't know how to swim. Took a swim class in college, then was basically a couch potato until 2003. Ran my 1st 10K, half marathon and marathon that year, then decided to try my 1st sprint triathlon the following year. Did my first Oly distance last year (Turtleman), and am planning my 1st half ironman this June...yikes! Here's the 1st 3 races of this season's schedule: Get in Gear - 10K (Run) It's gonna be busy, hence my quest to spend less time on BT... Here are my challenge goals: Took care of 1 hour of spinning at lunch... Good luck all! Edited by sparco 2008-04-01 5:04 PM |

Elite 4504 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles marina - 2008-04-01 6:10 PM Hey Justin, I lived in Columbus for a few years and started tris there. I grew fond of Alum Creek, both swimming and biking around there.QUOTE] Yeah... I plan on making nice with the Alum Creek beach this summer with some OWS. It is great having almost a safe half mile of beach out in the middle of the midwest and feel myself lucky. Glad the session with the coach went well. Tought about doing it a couple of times but found out that my average 100yrd speed is actually acceptable. Maybe think about in the future. |

Expert 1112 I'm a Tennessee girl living in SoCal. | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Ok, after some conversations with my mentoring group, my goal for the challenge isn't going to change. I won't actually be starting my sprint training plan until mid-May, so I'm fine to go as planned for April. Justin - I have a some friends in Columbus -- Dublin and Gahanna specifically. In fact, one of the favorite 5k races I've ever done was the Columbus Distance Classic 5k back in 2006. I had no plans to do the event, but went to cheer on a couple of friends who were doing the half marathon. I literally signed up for it at the expo and did it with zero training. I walked the whole 5k and was shocked when I managed to finish in 51:37. That day was kind of a turning point for me with getting more active and entering events again. |

48 | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Hey Turtles! My name's Betsy and I'm here in San Diego doing research & of course, training for triathlons. I have only done one sprint race so far and I'm hooked! Right now, I'm just signed up for a local club race in mid-April & after that, I'm not sure what I'll be doing. I was going to do the Spring Sprint in San Diego, but the big trip to Vegas happened to fall on that weekend (I've never been and there are tons of sprint-distances races in this area...so I'll been signing up for a different one soon). I love OWS. I will be doing that on Monday nights and possibly Friday nights with the local tri club. I'll be putting in most of my biking hours on a stationary bike, mostly because it's my time to catch up on reading and listen to music. And running...well, lets just say the turtle is a perfect mascot for my running style. Slow and steady. My goals: Swim - 4 OWS sessions Run - 40 miles Bike - 12 hours I already got in a 45 min bike session and a 3 mile run... GO TURTLES! |

I may try to find a half-mary somewhere in the Columbus area before my HIM but maybe just do the distance on my own as a training run. Nice job at the first 5k... I am still trying to talk my wife into training for one. |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Team Teancious Turtles Hola! Fellow Turtles: My name is Brett, and I'm a tri-a-holic! I'm in my 3rd year of "tri-ing". First season 12 races (11 sprint, 1 Oly), Second season, couch potato and Race Director. This season -- 1 sprint under my belt already, with a couple other races in the works. I'm your typical mid-life crisis athlete. But unlike many, I've stuck with it (breaks arm patting self on back)! Started with Marathons and moved from there. My claim to fame is that while I'm not "fast" or a stellar athlete, I have introduced MANY into the sport and helped them get to their first successful marathon or triathlon. Then I watch them get faster than me! No complaints though. Now lets all get out there and show them that the Turtles are a force to be reckoned with!

Yeah, that's a little freaky. LOL The friend who lives in Dublin is actually a runner. She trains with the Columbus Running Company group. She works at the university, so she does a lot of her running on campus. She'd never run up until a couple of years ago and now she's got 3 or 4 half mary races under her belt. |
