My training partner is from Shelby (just a bit north of Muskegon) and, now that we can FINALLY ride outside, he took me up yesterday for his favorite hill ride. Basically a 22 mile loop that includes a couple of 200 foot climbs, a 300 foot climb, and a 400 foot climb with lots of rollers in-between. Much to my pleasure, other than base elevation, it mimics the IMCDA course very nicely! Rode 3 loops yesterday followed by a five mile run.

I HIGHLY recommend this ride! Let me know if you are interested and I can forward you the mapmyrun.com map.

sounds awesome, I am curious where that is. Me and a buddy always ride up to our friends cottage on Memorial and Labor Day weekends. We go from Hudsonville up to the Muskatowa trail into Muskegon and then  up Apple to Whitehall road into Whitehall. Then jump on the Hart to Montague trail and take that up to Upper Silver lake.

It is a great ride but for some reason that da#@ wind is always in our face on those days.

GH Bill,

Shoot me the map. I'm looking for some IMWISesque hills and it sounds like you've found some. I'm here in the flatlands of the motor city and need all the hills I can get this summer. Thanks!

As long as you're that far, continue on via B15 between Silver Lake and Pentwater and continue on to the power project (can't recall the official name but it's a man made hydro-dam where they take the water in from the big lake and release it to generate the power) near Ludington. I'm from the area and some buddies ride from Hart out to the project then ride up to the observation deck at the top and say it about kills you going what seems to be vertical at the end.

What are some of the roads you were riding on in the Shelby area (if you remember the names of them)? Were you out by Stony Lake at all?

Sorry, don't remember the names of any of the roads.....Here is the link to the mapmyrun.com course:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/mi/shelby/100762208

mapmyrun says that the max climb is 330', but we have two sets of Garmin 305 data that says it is 400.....Will have to check out that ride out towards Pentwater/Ludington too!

Thanks for the tip; I have been riding down and back to the Holland State Park and am afraid those hills won't get me ready for the Timberman in August. I think I will head up there this weekend. Thanks again!
