Subject: RE: tri suit vs wet suit Everything she said is true. A trisuit is just thin fabric and does nothing to keep you warm and bouyant the way neoprene does. A good beginner full wetsuit will cost about $200 or so. I recommend trying them on if you can. To make things more complicated, there are now speedsuits or fastskins that people can wear while swimming. While doing nothing for temp or buoyancy, they do make you more hydrodynamic. DeSoto has a "Liftfoil" suit that was a speedsuit but is now also a tri-suit because it has a small crotchpad. BTW, that is not a dumb question. In catalogs and online, they kinda look the same. My friend just asked the exact same question the other day.
