Hi Rabobank,

Welcome to the Tour De France Bike Challenge 2008.

On the roads of France this Dutch team will be about team leader Russian Denis Menchov who is out to try and convert his two wins at the Vuelta Espana (Tour of Spain) into a win at the Tour De France.

Among the support riders are two exciting riders who often feature in breakaways, Oscar Freire and Juan Antonio Flecha.

On BT, your team line up for the challenge is:

1. adamsc2

2. AmbulanceDriver

3. Barqhead

4. cadmus

5. jeffy_101

6. kns57

7. xmann1102

8. Yoganerd

Now you have found the team thread, introduce yourself to your team mates below with some information which could include name, goals or info on your current bike(s).

Reporting for the challenge over the next three weeks will take place in three blocks matching the Tour De France racing days. The dates are as follows:

Week 1: 5th – 14th July

Week 2: 15th – 21 July

Week 3: 22 – 27 July

Your team has a tracking spreadsheet set up and active in google spreadsheet.

To open the spreadsheet click on this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pfYL7DR_dx-BNPVnMVWzyKA&... />

To login to Google Docs:

Username: btchallenge

Password: challengeforum

You can update the spreadsheet at any time to track your own, and your teams progress. I will be grabbing each teams results to date and posting a challenge update that includes all of the teams progress and any interesting tid bits from the various team threads. This update will be posted at the end of the each reporting week listed above.

The winning team will be determined by the team with the highest percentage of goal achieved. No one can go over 100% of goal and if more than one team hits 100% then there is more than one winning team!

To remind everyone to post their updates, and I recommend that you nominate a team leader to help with reminding everyone to report in each week. But the job of inspiring and motivating your team mate really does rest with each individual so don’t forget to give everyone some regular encouragement here in the team thread and through inspires on training logs.

I will try to pop in regularly to see how your team is getting on. If there are any questions throughout the course of the challenge let me know, I will pop back in the next 24 hours with some additional information and rider profiles for your Tour De France team before the action kicks off on the roads of France.

Happy Pedaling

Hi, fellow Rabobankers.

I am Pam and I love to ride. Just having some motivational issues right now so I though a challenge might be a good way to get my out the door and on my bike. I may back down my mileage goal of 250 miles, because I was thinking about the whole month instead of the duration of Le Tour. I am sticking with 10 stages, though.

Can't wait to hear from some of my team mates. Hope everyone is enjoying Independence Day (if you're American).

Hello fellow Rabobank team members. Rather appropriate to be on the dutch team since my step mother is dutch.

Don't let Pam fool you. She is awesome on the bike.

I'm just getting back into training after being sidelined for injuries to the foot. Darn PF has been a bear to try and heal. Not done yet, but I can at least begin some training.

Let's have an awesome TdF. We just got rid of our cable so I've got no TV to keep up with anything. bummer.

Hi Team,

Just a reminder that when talking about events in the actual Tour De France there is a 24 hour ban on posting about recent action from the French roads in either your own team thread or other teams. This is because a lot of people have to work while the live coverage is on which means they do not get the chance to catch up on what is happening in the roads of France until later in the day.

If you do want to chat about the event in France there is a Tour De France forum located here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=122#s for the duration of the event.

Otherwise Im usually hanging out in beginner chat whenever I have live stage coverage as well... and always happy to chat Tour with ANYONE and EVERYONE!

Good Morning Rabobankers!

I was running and casually riding for a couple of years and needed some competition to keep things interesting and to have a goal, so I ran my first half marathon in May. A friend of mine told me about a triathlon he was doing and convinced me to train for one. Completed my first sprint in early June and was instantly addicted! Have my next sprint next weekend and the first Oly in late August.

I needed a push to get riding more and thought this would be a great way to get it. I'm currently riding a 2007 Cannondale R800 with aerobars and drooling over everyone's tribikes on this website.

Have Fun,

Chris

Hey team, fairly novice roadie here.  My background is mountain biking.  I have my first tri scheduled for next Saturday and thought this challenge would keep me motivated post-race.

Goals are 9 stages, 110 miles.  One down today, rode the 15 mile course of next weekend's race this morning and I'm now watching a stage 1 replay.

I've never lost a challenge, so let's keep that tradition alive!  (It should be noted that this is only the second challenge I've participated in)

Hi, Rabobankers.

Today is a rest day for me with the big ride yesterday. I changed my total to 200 miles. Although I would love ride a minimum of 25 miles each stage, in reality some of that will be on the trainer due to lack of babysitters. So I bumped it down to 200 miles. Still 10 stages, though. I have 30 miles on tap for tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have good weather to help me out. Go Rabobank!

Good Morning All,

Watching Stage 2 while I'm waiting for my wife to get back from the gym so I can hit the road. Got a long (for me) ride of 36 miles today and it will be my first during the middle of a hot and humid day. I have my first Oly coming up in late August so odds are it will be similar weather, got to get used to it sometime!

Good luck riding today.

Go Rabobank!

Got my first stage done for the challenge. Rode just about 31 miles in very windy conditions. Good ride, considering all the climbing I did on the fourth. Go Rabobank!

Had a good long ride yesterday. I've been tinkering with my aeroposition since I decided to get into triathlons. Slid the cleats back on my shoes by a quarter inch and what a huge difference it made. Gained a half a mile an hour with fresher legs!

I have my second sprint this coming Sunday so i'm heading over to the race venue on Wednesday to do a run bike brick on the course to get a feel for it.

Go Rabobank!

Alright team, looks like we are off to a good start. I'll be getting my first ride in tomorrow and then again on Thu and Fri this week. Got a crazy work schedule this week.

Good luck on all the races that are coming up for the team.

Who's riding this week?

If all goes as planned, I'll have 3 stages this week, including one mountain one. I have a trainer ride scheduled for tomorrow (20 miles), 35ish hilly miles on Thursday, then a nice long ride of 70 miles on Sunday.

Come on, fellow Rabobankers. Post your week's plans here!

Heading into Vermont today for work so I'm taking the opportunity to ride the course for this weekend's race in the afternoon. Looks like there may be some bad thunderstorms this afternoon. If so, I'll try again tomorrow. After that will be the race itself on Sunday!

I got my second stage done yesterday. Did a run/bike brick on the course for this weekend's sprint. Almost made it through the run before the torrential rains came! At least I wasn't on the bike.

We seem to be missing some people but Good Job everyone who's out there riding!
