Got my confirmation this morning for volunteering for IM 08.  They also explained that we, as volunteers, will be able to sign up before the general public on Monday morning for IM09.  Looks like I will be in line Monday morning..

One big change this year is that Ironman is giving volunteers preference to register for Ironman 2009 on Monday morning before the general public.  They haven't worked out the details yet (like if you'll need your wristband or tshirt for proof) but I'll let you know once they decide.  Meanwhile, I need to get an approximate number of you that plan to register for Ironman 2009 so they'll know how many spots will be left for the general public.

That is so sweet.  I wish I had the time to train to be ready for 2009!  What a great deal!

Got my confirmation this week as well, but nothing in it was mentioned about first priority for next year.  Hmm, tempting, but targeting 2010... but you never know.

I'm at aid station 7 on the square.  Will get done in time to watch a friend finish and stay for the end.

Can't wait!

I volunteered for two shifts but haven't received any confirmation emails. Do you know if these are for certain positions only and from the person in charge of those or did they send out notifications for everyone? I signed up for registration and for the run course. Just thought I'd check!

Just got back from an 8 day vacation and checking on things.  I received an e-mail from the bike handler lead and line catcher lead informing in my e-mail the same thing that AJ posted.

I would suspect that the head of the IM provided the information to the main volunteer contact, then that person provided the information to the leads of all the volunteer positions, then those leads sent out the info.  It's possible that the lead of your area hasn't contacted anyone yet.

Also know that not all the volunteer leads are great about communication.  Last year, I NEVER heard from one of the leads...to each his own.  I HEART the finish line coordinators, Rita and theguywhosenameican'tremember.  Really on the ball, get and keep things moving.  They have been complimented many times by the photogs at the finish line because the volunteers know when to move in (wait for the flash, THEN go...).  Finish line is the only place I'm volunteering this year, and that's one of the reasons why (that and I was just too fried last year).

I haven't heard anything, either, and I am doing registration as well.  Hopefully soon!

I took charge 2 years ago and boldly (but politely) insisted to help the lead running marshall with some some stuff since she was falling behind and doing stuff by herself.  It actually helped getting the volunteers to form a line, and streamline the sign-in, tell the volunteers where they needed to go and get their volunteer shirts.

I'm thinking it's worth a shot and it paid off.  I can see you doing that, PJ.

I volunteered for two posts and didn't get a confirmation of an early sign up either. Bummer. Can you keep us posted in case our volunteer coordinators just aren't on the ball? I was planning to get to sign up at 6am, but if that's not going to be necessary, it would be great. I don't mind the wait though, it's why I'm going out there. Can't wait for '09!
