Subject: Question - Feel Like an Idiot

I am training for a Sprint Tri - Crystal Lake. This will be my first. My goal today was to ride 18 miles...the actual Bike for the TRI. I was doing great, but for one second I lost focus and dumped my bike. Bike seems to be OK, but the Bike Shop needs to keep it until Tuesday.

What else can I do to get prepared for the bike w/out my bike for a few days?

It's where I bought the bike so I don't have to pay full price for Maintenance/Repairs.

I was surprised myself, but I will probably do some spin classes while I wait. My friend just left and took his bike up to Lake Placid.

LOL...I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.  The Monday before my first Tri, I asked my LBS if I brought my bike in that day for a pre-race tune-up, how long would it be before I could get it back (wanted 1 or 2 easy rides during my pre-race week).  They told me the earliest I could get it back would be the following Tuesday.  Just a tad ridiculous.

You get the most bang for your buck running as far as time spent. Run. If you can do a spin class great. Make sure you go so hard you puke (bring a towel).

All bike shops are slow. You want them to do it right, correct?

My LBS always gives dates like that but I have never had them take longer then two days. Just tell them that you must have it by this date and I'm sure they will make it happen.

Keep in mind most LBS's are swamped with repairs these days.  Not only is it their high season (summer normally is), but if yours are anything like the two I normally go to, they have seen a HUGE uptick in the amount of repairs and maintenance they normally do because so many more people are going on two wheels these days.  So frankly, a week might be reality.

Just my 2 cents.

Glad you're not too injured, and hope the bike is OK.  A week isn't overly generous although you'd love to have it back NOW

The LBS probably has a backlog as they don't make much $$ when the mechanics talk instead of wrench.  Plus it's usually nice this time of year and the mechanics like to ride too (so they're not working too much overtime).

You only have 1 bike?!

I always make an appointment, so it same-day service. If you've done your prep, don't worry about not having the bike for a few days - you're ready!

Good luck!
