When training for the iron distance do you always ride your tri bike or do you have a beater/training bike and then only do the long rides on the tri bike? Or do you just ride the tri bike all the time?

I personally used three bikes, tri bike and two different road bikes… They were in different cities up until a couple of weeks ago. Now in the home stretch to Ironman, I am only riding my tri bike.

I feel that you should train with what you plan on racing with.  I can see the benifit of occasionally switching to a road bike if your race bike is a tri bike, but I think the majority still needs to be with your primary bike.

I did a few thousand miles this year on my commuter bike.

They're still miles.

I do all my riding on my tri bike. If I do go on a group ride I just stay out of the aero bars. My "other" bike is a 25+ yr old monster with a bent rim that I never had replaced so it just sits in the garage collecting dust.

I do most of my overall training, and all of my interval training, on my tri bike but like to switch up to my road bike for some of the long rides where the goal is building endurance and not building strength.

Where are the aero bars on the bike you're riding in your avatar? I think your seat may be too high!
