Subject: Fuji Bikes?
Hey all...

Quick question...

I am doing my first tri in late September. Up until now I have been using my OLD, BIG mountain bike, with HUGE tires. I don't have the coin for a good bike, and won't anytime soon (my wife and I are expecting...priorities!).

I found a Fuji Absolute 4.0 in excellent condition (or so he says) for $150. I know it's entry level, but it's at least a road bike! Anyone have any input they can give me? Worth it? Piece of junk? Put slicks on my mountain bike instead? Anything?

Don't know about the Absolute, but I have a Fuji Roubaix and love it.  My next one will be a blue though (rideblue.com)...they're SWEET, just outta my price range

My wife has a Fuji Absolute and it is a good bike for that price (this is with the strong assumption that it fits you properly).  However, it is a hybrid and not a road bike, so you will be riding in an upright position rather than having drop bars.   If you are committed to continuing tris, you may want to keep shopping for a true road bike.  If you buy this one and continue in the sport, you will be wanting a road or tri bike before long.  You may want to go that route the first time rather than having a hybrid as an intermediate step.  If you look around, you should be able to find a road bike of comparable quality at a similar price point.

That said, my wife loves her bike and I ride a Fuji as well - but she is a recreational rider only and doesn't do events.
