Subject: Do you have a bike for me?!
I need a bike. That's pretty simple. I don't need anything super fancy...this is my first time training and hoping to complete a sprint tri.

I'm 5'2, but don't know what size that would make me on the bike.

Any suggestions? Or better yet, anyone trying to get rid of a bike, that might work for me? There's really no reason for me to buy new, being a newbie and all--let me take it off your hands!

Thanks a bunch. :-)

Saying that you are 5'2" will only give you a very general idea of what size bike to get.  Your inseam is one good indicator along with your torso length and forearms.  Go to a good bicycle shop and get fitted for a bike; that is the best thing.  In the meantime you might take a look at Wrenchscience  Sizing System at the following site:

Thanks for the help, dudes! Here are my measurements... (as based off of the wrench sicence site--thanks for that!)

- Handlebar Width is :: 44cm Center-to-Center
- Overall Reach is :: 3.305cm Center-to-Center
- Frame Size is :: 49cm Center-to-Top / 48cm Center-to-Center
- Recommended Saddle Height is :: 64.59cm

So when people just generally mention one number as their "size," would mine be....49?

Some bicycle manufacturers measure their bikes from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube along the seat tube length.  Other manufacturers measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube along the seat tube.  So, you would ride a 48 or a 49 depending on the manufacturer!  Also, being as you are quite "petite", you might benefit from looking a women specific bikes in that size.

If you are still looking for a bike, I have a Specialized Dolce Elite that is a size 48cm. My daughter got this bike last January and has grown over five inches since we bought it, so I need to replace it. It is Ultegra group and in very good condition. It has fallen over a couple of times, but no crashes. There are a couple of small paint chips. Areobars are Profile Design Split Second AL. You can see a photo of it in my album, 2005 Triathlon Season. PM with any questions if you are interested.
