Let's say the water temperature is between 78 and 84. I know that if you wear a wetsuit, you are not allowed to receive any awards. Awards are the least of my worries. I want to finish the swim. A wetsuit will really help. Will any people wear wetsuits in that scenario? I heard a couple of weeks ago that the water temp was 86. It has cooled off some since then and with a little rain maybe it could be in the 84 range.

Last year the water was very warm. I too, am a slow swimmer and had some concerns. With the swim being in the little inlet upriver, it wasn't too bad. That downriver part was AWESOME and I felt very comfortable without the wetsuit. As warm as it was last year, I could certainly see getting overheated in a wetsuit.

Bravo,

I had a friend who I just didn't believe could swim 2.4 miles under 2 hours (cause he was breast stoking half the race).  He did the swim in 1:36.  The current coming back will take you home.   Even 80 degrees with a wetsuit may make you overheat.

You will be fine.  Fine some clear water, go at your pace.  If you get a little panic, find a kayak to hold on to and catch your breath.

A wetsuit at much over 80 degrees will have the same effect as swimming in a sauna for 1+ hours. You run an extreme risk of hyperthermia and dehydration which can lead to a myriad of serious medical conditions. The bouyancy from a wetsuit is NOT worth the risk!

I would not worry about wetsuit or non wetsuit swim at LOU. If you have put the meters/yards in you will be fine. Have you considered wearing tri-shorts and pointzero 3. It may be the way to go.

That is what I am considering tri-shorts or tri-shorts and Pointzero3. It has no sleeves and only goes down to your knees.

Thanks for that. I'm sure other slow swimmers like myself felt glad to read it. I think that even if you can wear a wetsuit, I'll just stick with the speedsuit and roll the dice!

Your doing IMKY and are worried about a wetsuit? I'm trying to figure out why you would've picked IMKY for a IM knowing YOU NEED A WETSUIT in a race thats not likely to be wet suit legal?

If you trained for the distance you don't need it and if you choose to wear it, you may overheat and affect the rest of your race in a very negative way.
