Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: Sept. "FOUR IS MORE" Challenge Announcement September FOUR IS MORE ChallengeFor this challenge, you can pick up to FOUR activities, but you must participate in at least THREE.You can BIKE and/or SWIM and/or RUN and/or DO SOMETHING ELSE (strength train, dance, hike, lose weight, or whatever else you want). YOU define the activities. (Does 'swimming' include kick drills? Does 'running' include elliptical work?) YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly. YOU set the goals. Only want to swim once? Only want to bike once? YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly. (But do try to challenge yourself!) To participate: Sign up on this Google spreadsheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pfYL7DR_dx-Ce-c5zWaOBaQ You will need to enter the following information: email address: [email protected] password: challengeforum If you can't access the spreadsheet: Scroll to the bottom, and look at the bottom right corner. If it says, "edit this page," click that link and enter the info above.... Or you can just reply to this message and state: 1) Your goals. (BIKE and/or SWIM and/or RUN and/or OTHER). 2) The number of hours / distance / sessions for each goal. 3) Are you are willing to be a Team Captain? Also, if you have any teammate requests, list them here. This will be a Team Challenge. Teams will be assigned randomly. However, teammate requests will be honored whenever possible. At the end of the month: The winning team(s) will display a signature line: "My team won the September Four-Is-More Challenge!" All other (losing) teams will display an avatar of something that SHOULD have made them move more! This could be your shoes (ie: you should have run more), or your bike (ie: you should have biked more), or your bathing suit (ie: you should have swam more), or.... etc. Avatars and signature lines will be displayed for the month of October. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it. Team spreadsheets will be put on Google Spreadsheets. Each team member will update his/her own info. However..... Each team will select a team captain. The team captain will be responsible for making sure that each team member updates the spreadsheet by the reporting dates, and/or will enter information for people who are unable to update the spreadsheet directly. The Challenge will begin on September 1st, and end on September 30th. In the event of injury/illness, you may request to be dropped from the challenge, without penalty. If you achieve 100% of your goal before the month is over, you may request to raise your goal. At the end of the month, the winning team will be the team with the highest completion rate. All training must be logged in your BT Training Log, by SATURDAY night, your time. If it’s not logged and reported, it didn’t happen! For reporting, the weeks will run as follows: Sept. 1-6 Sept. 7-13 Sept. 14-20 Sept. 21-27 Sept. 28-30 Please note: The week will end on Saturday. This will allow me to compile the results on Sunday. Smack talking: -- Smack talking is not mandatory, but may be done. -- Smack talk is different from a personal attack. If you aren’t sure what the difference is, err on the side of caution and do not post the comment. (Keep in mind that real people are reading your comments!) -- Smack talking is not to be taken personally. If you get upset about a post, ignore it and move on. -- If you find a post offensive, and cannot simply ignore it: Walk away from the computer until you feel better, OR better yet, go for a good workout. A hard workout does wonders for your perspective. The ultimate goal of this Challenge is to push yourself in an activity (or activities), to work out, to meet fellow BTers (virtually or otherwise), and to have some fun! Hopefully, this Challenge will give you a little extra incentive and motivation to succeed at your goals – whatever they may be. Welcome to the Challenge! - Dee

New user 41 | Subject: RE: September FOUR IS MORE Challenge Announcement I just wanted to clarify the goal-setting -- the goals we set on the google spread sheet are per month, right? I see that others have posted a goal of 4 or 8 sessions...is that the number of sessions they plan on completing their goals in? I would like to complete 10,000 yards, 12 hours on the bike & 25 miles running...do I need to divide this into sessions? Can I include races I compete in? I'm new to BT and the fun challenges so I'm just in need of some clarification. Thanks! |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: September FOUR IS MORE Challenge Announcement Usually when people say 8 sessions, that is the number of sessions they would like to complete in the total month. If you have a time or distance goal for the month, that is fine. You don't have to say how many sessions you are going to do. |

Some people go by sessions, others use minutes, or kilometers, etc. Just do it however you normally record your training. And yes, you can include your races, too. I've added your info to the spreadsheet. So if you want to update your goals, you can just go to the spreadsheet and change those values. (The goals won't need to be finalized until around Sept 5th, so you can change them for awhile yet, as you work out your month's goals.) Welcome to the Challenges! - Dee |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: September FOUR IS MORE Challenge Announcement I'm all about a challenge but do we absolutely have to use the BT tracker? I've been using another tracker for over two years, and while I tried BT's, I find mine much more suited to my style. I also tried double logging, made it two whole days and quit that crap. I spent more time logging than running! If it is absolutely mandatory in order to participate, then I will track via sessions and enter bare bones into BT (which means it won't be nearly so accurate, but at least it'll show I did a workout). I suppose the question is, do you trust me? Well, do you? |

I already added myself and my goals to the spreadsheet. I didn't set a goal for swimming, but I did set targets for three other activities; is this okay, or did I misunderstand the instructions? |

I've been using another tracker for over two years, and while I tried BT's, I find mine much more suited to my style. You only have to update the spreadsheet - and that could be once/week. I don't use the BT tracker either. Same reasons as you. I'm in for this challenge. Training for NYC marathon so really my only goals are run-oriented. I'll still do some cycling and swimming but I don't want to feel compelled to do anything that might jeopardize my training and I don't want to set some ridiculously low goal. Maybe I'll do Core work and some stretching/yoga goals. Dee: If you're setting up teams, maybe there'll be a "Running" team???? Edit: Just realized I need to do at least 2 of the S/B/R...eh...I'll figure out something. Edited by runnerx 2008-08-18 8:41 AM |

I suppose the question is, do you trust me? Well, do you? It's not so much a matter of trust as it's a matter of this being BT so I feel that we should support the BT systems. (And yes, I do check people's spreadsheet totals against their BT logs, especially when someone questions a team's numbers.) Also, entering your totals in BT will allow your teammates (or competitors) to track your progress. (This is a team challenge, after all.) How about this: You can log your training on your other tracker, but put the overall totals into your BT logs. So, for example, you end up with a total of 2000 yards swimming: just enter "2000" into your swim totals. You don't need to break it down any further. Or, if it's easier, you can also summarize it by week, and just enter your weekly totals onto BT. That way, your teammates and anyone needing to verify your totals will see what you've done. - Dee |
