Some good water in Jamaica.   Just swept the medals....I thought there should have been a false start on Edwards, she twitched.    But no recall.

US protest of women's 100 final rejected

The U.S. track and field team's protest of the women's 100-meter final at the Olympics was rejected Sunday night.

BEIJING —

The U.S. track and field team's protest of the women's 100-meter final at the Olympics was rejected Sunday night.

The Americans asked that the race be reviewed because of a possible false start by Torri Edwards, one of the country's sprinters.

Edwards herself said she thought she false-started. She wound up finishing last as Shelly-Ann Fraser led a Jamaican sweep of medals in the dash.

I was thinking it something besides water but I'll keep quiet for now. I really hope they're all clean and are just really strong this year. It's awesome and good on them if that's the case. The last thing the olympics needs is doping scandals.

As far as the false start goes. I'm thinking that her flinch didn't cause the other runners to do the same and maybe that's what they're looking at. I don't know the official wording of the rules but it definitely looked like a false start to me.

Just found this from the NCAA T&F rule book. Couldn't find an official "rule book" for the Olympics or IOC T&F but I'd assume it would be close atleast.

5-2 FALSE START (2007): Is a 'flinch' considered to be a false start?
RESPONSE: A 'flinch' can be considered a false start using Rule 5-2b, since it is a violation of the various requirements of the 'set' command. It can also be considered a false start under Rule 5-2c if the action is deemed a 'commencement of the starting motion' by the starter. The starter has sole responsibility in making the determination, Rule 5-1.1. The starter has the option to cancel the start before or after the 'set' command, Note 2, which has the effect of negating any possible violation or disruption caused by a 'flinch'. (30Apr07)

Pretty vague if you ask me .
