Subject: Last 2 weeks of taper

What does your last 2 weeks of IM taper look like?  What is the objective of the last two weeks?  I've hear people talk about doing stuff for the mental benefits but I don't really care about that.  Physically what am I trying to do with my workouts during the last two weeks?

My coach cuts my training in half each week of taper.  Last week (final week before taper) was 1000+ minutes.  This week is 500 minutes.  Next week, I'm looking at ~300 minutes.  The intensity of the workouts should remain the same, but the durations just get less and less.

His goal for me is to rest my body and let it heal.  Take some NSAIDs each day.  Stretch/foam-roller once a day and focus on any sore spots.

Last week before IM, he'll want me to focus on my nutrition with lots of good carbs (fruits, etc) to load up the stores for race day.

To maintain fitness while at the same time your body recovers so you can be ready to push at your best on race day, hence achieving peak performance given your current fitness level...

I was going to start a thread on this. The week of the race is mostly rest according to my training program. All I have is a 800m swim, 6 mile bike, and 20 minute run. Just curious as to what others are doing???

I think with all my extra time I will write a couple of novels, add an addition to the house and volunteer at the local homeless shelter.

My last two weeks are 8.9hrs and 5hrs. My two big workouts for this week are a 3hr bike and 1.5hr run. These seem a little long so if I come up short no biggie I figure a little too much rest is better than too much training. I can feel a surge of energy just thinking about these numbers.
