If you have the inside lane, then going around the corner the centripetal force is higher.

So, wouldn't it be best to have the outside lane, especially for a big sprinter like H. Bolt?

Usually 3,4,5,6  are ok lanes,  not to tight and you have somebody to focus on.

Yeah I say so too. I choose 4, that way you have 4 rabbits to chase.

"Best" can be a matter of personal preference but, usually, lanes are assigned ("seeded" by previous performance.  Seeding is usually like this: 4,5,3,6,2,7,1,8.  That is, starting with the middle lanes and moving out.

Bolt has to be carefull he doesn't jack around in qualifying.  Suck for him to get lane one.   Or if he got stuck in lane 8, would think he would run the whole turn with his head turned left to watch everyone else.

Probably could do pretty good there in lane 8.

The only way he's going to be watching anyone else after the turn is if he has eyes in the back of his head. That guy can move. If he celebrated for 15-20m in the 100 with nobody near him then just imagine the lead he'll build in the 200. I don't think he'll care what lane he's in, it's not going to matter.

He might see them when he does his victory cart wheel 50 meters from the finish...
