I see a lot of folks wearing these at races (both of the two I've done) where wetsuits are not permitted.  The website says they're race legal because they're neutral bouyant.

Two questions:  Is that right?  And, if they're legal, are they worth wearing?  The advertising says the drag coefficient is lower than skin and normal swim suits, but was wondering if you can tell the difference.

Note:  I'm not expecting it to be magic given how lame my swim is still, but was curious.  Thanks!

A guy I knew that normally is very competitive with me  and sometimes faster wore one at my last open water swim race. And I still beat him, though not by a whole lot.

I'm not sure it makes that big of a difference. Not enough to compensate if you are having an off day. You might save some time, but I'm not sold on the fact that it's enough to shell out the $$.

Another question on these, given the reason wetsuits aren't legal is usually due to the temp being too high, how are the Pointzero3's compared to a regular wet suit in terms of heat retention?

ColdRingo -

In full-disclosure, I have a product sponsorship with blueseventy so please view my comments with that information in mind. I have both a Helix and PointZero3+. Depending on water temp, I'll choose one or the other, but I'm always wearing one regardless of the distance and temp. Coming from a swimming background I am very selective about what I wear. I have no other point of reference for competitive products, but I couldn't recommend the PZ3 line enough. Yes, you can tell the difference, even for a stronger swimmer as I am myself.

Is it warm? In temps over 80 it's warm, but IMO so is a jammer. I believe in the benefits of the suit so much I wore my PZ3+ at the U.S. Masters Open Water 10k National Champs this past June in 83 degree water. It was a bit toasty but I don't think I could have gotten through the race without it - definitely not with the results I posted.

My experience with the data points with one vendor's product. Good luck with your choices...
