Subject: Need Some Advice
Hello All!

I need some help, about 2 months ago I started a new job and also I also signed up for my first HIM (which is 33 days away), but becuase of my new job I have had very little time to train. Should I just suck it up and capitalize on the days I can train, or maybe contact the race director for a deferal?

Has anyone had something like this happened? If so, what did you do?

Thanks!

It's really hard to say, because you don't have any data entered for your training logs.

How much training are you getting? What is your current base? Have you been getting any training in, or none at all in the past two months?

Plenty of people have gone into their first (or subsequent) HIMs underprepared (to varying degrees of success in finishing), but since you don't log your workouts, there's really no way to tell what "very little" means.

Three months prior to HIM (when you started the job) is peak training time. I assume you've been following some kind of a plan, and if you haven't been able to do most of the workouts, especially for your first HIM, it would be folly to do the race.

Can you safely complete the swim/bike/run?

Will you enjoy the 56 mile bike ride, followed by the 13.1 mile run?

If the answer to either of these is "NO," the smart thing would be to DNS (Did Not Start).  You might convince the RD to defer your registration for a year, but more likely not.  The RD isn't responsible for you starting a new job that takes away from training for a HIM.

Most people are getting fairly close to tapering in thier programs, you have not even started a training program. Life sometimes gets in the way, we can all relate, but you sighned up 8/4,?????????????

Don't enter, you could get hurt or worse! Judging by lack of logging, your previous posts, and no comitted program, you dont have the conditioning for this distance race. Try to get a deferment on your entry fee, and don't say work got in the way, that would be a surefire rejection. Think about your signature line.

I had a conflict with my job and training so I quit my job. I realize that most people couldn't afford to do this but because I can...I figured why the heck not. I do not regret my decision and I am loving life!

I did a Oly in July, so I think I still have some of my base...there is a sprint the same day so maybe ill try to get into that one. And next year I can focus on the HIM. I need to start tracking my stuff online, i have been scribbling it in a notebook.
