Hey all,

Anyone ever checked out the Velodrome at Bloomerpark? I just visited today for beginners night and had a pretty good time. The people were that run it were helpful and your first time out is free! Anyone that wants to give it a try beginners night is on Monday's. If the weather cooperates I'll be back again next week.

First impressions:
Fixed gear is friggin weird at first. But I can really see the benefits to it. I was FORCED to pedal in circles and put even constant pressure on the peddles. As far as the track goes it is far more intimidating when your riding the apron and actually seeing how much banking there actually is. My first lap I pushed pretty hard just to make sure I wasn't going to slide down but I figured it out after a few laps, got a lot more comfortable and found a good pace. Overall it was a pretty good experience and the bikes are pretty cool, simple, and it's just fun. I wish there were more around, could be a fun thing to do just on a week night back home.

Anyone have experience with track bikes? I'm kind of interested in adding one to my collection. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Andy,

Yeah the 'drome is cool. We have an outdoor one here, but it kinda sucks because you can't ride on it when it rains.

Regarding track bikes, I only know of a couple models: Fuji track pro and the Felt somethin somethin. The main thing is to realize that there's a difference between fixies and real track bikes. The geometry and handling and stuff are different. So I would recommend making sure you have the real thing--none of this hipster bike messenger fixie garbage.

It's big fun but you can't do my two favorite things: Coast and stop.

Hey I went back today and had a blast again. I'm planning on going back at least one more time this week and a couple more next week while I can. Monday nights are best for first timers and your first time is free. I think it's $10 otherwise. Let me know if anyone wants to tag along. I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday.
