Age Group Rank = 4/4
Pre-race routine:

Up around 4.30am, ate the usual peanut butter & jelly on a bagel and had some accelerade.
Event warmup:

I was a little tight, so lots of stretching. Short jog to keep my legs warm.
Swim
  • 14m 32s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first ocean swim. While I was watching the waves ahead of me head out my excitement turned to nervousness....the waves were bigger than I expected and some of the guys were having a touch time getting out there. I did an ok job of getting out there, and before I knew it I was rounding the first bouy and into a steady rhythm. There was a mild rip when I was heading back to the shore, and I got knocked around by one or two waves. But, all in all, for my first ocean swim I'm happy with how I did.

Bike

  • 17 miles
  • 16.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Flat and fast course.

One complaint...there should been more direction on where to turn for the second loop of the course. It was very confusing and unclear!
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Run
  • 42m 18s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt great on the run! Took the 1st mile to get my legs back and steadily picked up my pace throughout, and especially in the last mile.

My other complaint about this race. There were 3 water stops on the course, but there was NO ONE working the tables!! There were plastic cups stacked in bags and coolers of water. I had no intention of stopping to pull out a cup and fill it. I would have like water at one point, but felt ok to skip over it.
Post race
Warm down:

First order of business was to get some water!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm happy with how I did, but I really feel like I could have pushed harder. I've walked away from races feeling this way before and it's very frustrating.

Event comments:

Overall I liked this race and would do it again. However, there were some aspects that seemed very unorganized, and there could have been more volunteers out on the course.
