Subject: 5 days from the HIM

Hello All,

As the subject states I'm 5 days out from the Bassman Fall Half Distance.  9 days ago was my last REAL workout, went for 4 hours and 47 minutes (bike and run).  I've been taking it easy, training lightly every other day and eating as much protein as I possibly can handle (I'm a weightlifter first, just ingrained in there).

Any advice for these final few moments of enjoyable life?  I could use them.  I'm planning on an easy swim tomorrow (wed) and a very easy brick Thursday and that's all she wrote till Sunday.

This will be my first HIM (Never went over international distance before (I think that's the term)) and yes, I just double paretheses  : )  Ran a Marathon in 4 and a half hours and this beast will take 6 and a half if all goes well so to say I'm getting a bit edgy is putting it nicely  haha

Take care all and good luck in all your endeavors!

Eli

If your training is in place, nail the hydration and nutrition for the race and adjust for temperature. Have endurlytes or some such if it will be at all hot for your race. For your first him probably go out at your practice speed or a hair under until half way through the run. Anyway I did my first HIM last Sunday and that's my 2 coppers. It sounds like your run is stronger than mine was, but not sure about your swim or bike. I finished in 6:48, but it was 100 F + and hills o pleanty. Rest up and enjoy.

If you log your workouts here folks will have a better idea of your training and can fine tune advice as to how to approach races, training etc.

Be positive! It's all about attitude! This will be your first HIM... make the memory special by making it a positive and fun day. Happiness is all about your attitude. Talk to other athletes. Don't let anything get you down. Keep moving forward and stick with your nutrition. Although, even if your nutrition goes wrong, you will still finish as long as everything else is OK.

Good luck!
