Elite 3471 Evergreen, CO | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Hi Comets! Hope everyone who celebrated Thanksgiving had a great one! I haven't met many of you before so I'll introduce myself. I'm Susan, live in the CO foothills west of Denver, have 3 nearly grown kids, 3 dogs and a cat and a very tolerant husband. I work in a small law office here in town. Finished my second year of tris and am focusing on swim and bike this winter, and strength and stretching so I don't have to put up with running injuries again next season. Planning to swim lots this month because that is definitely my limiter -- not that I don't enjoy passing people on the bike and run, but I'd like to not be last out of the water. Taking swim lessons from BTer juliapurr and hope to be able to keep up w/ the slow lane at Masters by the end of the month. Looking forward to a fun and productive month! |

Champion 10742 Ames, IA | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Hi team! Looks like we have a bunch swimmers here. Me too! My name is Neal and I just wrapped up my first season of tris. Basically last spring I taught myself how to swim. As you might imagine my stroke needs some work and the last few weeks I have been working with a coach to correct things. I need to spend more time in the pool to try and implement those corrections and erase the bad habits I had formed. My goal is to get in the pool 10 times this month. Looks like this is going to be a great team! |

Have fun with your swim! I won't be able to hit the pool till Wednesday. I'm taking a couple of vacation days and staying at my parents place till then. Not sure where to even look for water around here besides the lake and I wouldn't touch that with the warmest of wetsuits. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Hey gang - I put all the swimmers together (well, MOST of the swimmers) so you could encourage each other. And so that I don't have to think about how most triathletes have to swim, an so I should probably get on that. You got the name Comet because swimmers leave a little wake...like a comet...get it? Yeah, lame, but I was running out of good reindeer names! Have a great month! |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Cool...I'm in with the swim focus folks!!! I'm Kathy, mom to 5 ages 19-10, have done 5 years of tris and still very BOP on the swim..annoying as heck as I have taken lessons from 4 coaches and swim mostly 3x a week for 5 years. Swimming is mostly technique 70-80% so swimming slow I know my technique is poor. I'm determined to improve and have hired yet another swim coach and am taking lessons. I really like her and she explains things many different ways and tries to get me to understand what I do wrong and then helps me try different ways to get it. I don't make the normal mistakes (cross over and too high entry) but more unusual ones...early entry on right side and long glide in which I lock my elbow so I have a hard time keeping my elbow above my hand on the catch. Right now I just do technique or focus point workouts normally about 30' but only as long as I feel in the groove and improving technique. No more griding out the yards instilling crappy technique. I will gain more speed come tri season if I improve technique..free speed. At IMLP I was about the 30th slowest swimmer and worried all off season if I'd make the swim cut off 2:20 and swam in 1:48 which I was excited for. IM Canada I have a goal of sub 1:30. My Y opened a new pool in the town my girls go to school in so I often swim after dropping them off or before I pick them up and it is a fresh start to where I have swam last 5 years. I can't really explain how frustrated I have been in the past with lack of progress...nothing like doing the same thing over and over and not improving. I did take 4 months off swimming after IMLP just to get a mental break and it was good for me. Go team Comet!

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Hi, all. My name's Susie, and I live near Allentown, PA. I've been doing triathlons off and on for a while now, but I have a habit of quitting and gaining back weight. I want to finally lose the weight for good so that I can do longer distance triathlons. Swimming here for me, too. My goal is 14 sessions which is average of 3x/week. I have been videotaped and took lessons for a while. I'm just slow, as I am when biking or running. I do love swimming, it's just tough for me to get my behind out of bed sometimes. I'm working on learning to breathe every 3 strokes (I do a 2-3-2-3 pattern now) and to do flip turns. I can do flip turns for about half of my workout but they're pretty poorly done at this point. I've gotten one swim session in already this month, and I plan to swim Wednesday and Friday before work. I also want to get up earlier so that I can increase my |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge BTW, just when I felt in a groove last night and really felt like I was doing awesome with my technique and going faster ... some swimmer dude swam 50 yards in the time it took me to do 25. I briefly thought about breaking his goggles but just like Dora in "Finding Nemo" I just kept swimming. |

Elite 3471 Evergreen, CO | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Yes, that's a great chart! Tnx! Did LT test on trainer this morning, so no swim, which means I'm on the hook for swimming everyday for the rest of the week. Woo hoo! We live 1/2 a mile from the rec center so it's not a big deal to run over for a swim. Like Kathy, I'm focusing on form rather than distance right now, so keeping the swims frequent and short. Off to work -- have a great day everybody!! |

Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: Team Comet - Dec. Limiter Challenge Hello. I am Leah and I live in Southern California. I have been doing triathlons since 2000 - the LA Tri every single year since it started and then assorted ones here and there. I have the hardest time getting myself to the pool which is really dumb because that is the most expensive part of my training and exercise. I swim at the Rose Bowl and it is $60 per month down the drain if I don't go. Or if I go once, that is one expensive swim! My plan calls for me to swim on Tuesdays and Thursday and - hurrah - I made it to the pool this morning. I am the slowest person in the pool, yet I think my technique is OK. I just don't do my technique fast enough. I would like to do two HIMs in 2009 and then a full IM in 2010 (in Nice, France). From what I have seen perusing the boards, you all seem like really neat supportive people. |

Your future goals look a lot like mine. I'll do two HIMs next summer and than an IM in 2010. Not sure where but I'm pretty sure I'll stay in the States. I'll bet the one in Nice will be pretty cool though. Enjoy it! |
