I see Peterborough has an Aqua Bike this year.    Am planning to do Ottawa in September, but thought Peteroborough might be good to try, since it is closer to home and the bike route seems much more interesting.

Does anyone know what Lake Beavermead is like to swim in?   Nicer than Ottawa's swim?

Thanks, Cool

I live in Ottawa and although I have never swam in Lake Beavermead I can comfortably say that it is most likely better than anything in the immediate or nearby Ottawa region.

Has anyone done the Peterborough course in the past? I was wondering just how hilly it is? I am considering this race for my first Sprint. Any thoughts?

I haven't done Peterborough, but recently talked to someone who has, and she says it is very hilly.    Don't know if you are familiar with the Bamberg loop (bike route for Victoria's du), in Waterloo, but she said the hills at Peterborough were similar, just alot longer.   She also told me the lake is quite a mixed bag - high weeds in spots, muddy in spots, OK in spots.   We hope to get over that way soon and check it out.   Will let you know what we find.

Good luck on your first sprint.

We went to Peterborough on Friday and rode the Half Iron Man route which definitely IS hilly.   But I don't think you need to be concerned about the sprint.    The hills don't really start until about 10km out.    The lake actually didn't look too bad.   Hard to say what it will be like in July though.  Huge transition area and nice, easy exit to bike.     Good luck on whatever you decide.

The lake can be a wee WEE bit weedy. The Sprint is not too hilly. I did it three years ago and I was not all that athletic. GO FOR IT! It's a gas. Tons of people cheering you on. More experienced triathletes might be able to compare the topography to other places... but it was not bad. A few hills on the bike ride. No biggie for Sprint.

Good luck!
