Precipitation
Total Time = 44m 46s
Overall Rank = 237/748
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 73/145
Pre-race routine:

Left home early due to family no coming (nasty weather), so arrived early and had lots of time to go to loo, set up, go to the loo...

Toast and banana for breakfast + drinking half strength gatorade until race start.
Event warmup:

Stretched. put on wetsuit (water 16/17 degrees C). Spent time in water before wave start.

Panicked momentarily thinking 'did i put front wheel on straight in the dark?'
Swim
  • 06m 6s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Need to practice sighting of bouys without breaking rhythm. Still getting used to swimming in pack in open water. On the whole swim leg is improving.

Swim time includes 100m or so run to first timing pad.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Put shoes on in transition. Still having trouble getting clean entry into shoes. Missed pedal at first attempt making for clumsy mount.
What would you do differently?:

Need to sort out shoe situation. Either dry feet off a little, or maybe open up velcro tab more. Is it worth learning to have shoes attached to bike? (comments, suggetions welcome).
Bike
  • 19m 11s

  • 31.28 km/hr
Comments:

Rain came pelting down during first few kms - got to love that stinging feeling of rain beating against your face - sensational. Experimented with trying to push smaller gear, but eventually settled for a higher cadence in bigger gear. Got fooled slowing down too much at one corner thinking it was a turnaround.

Enjoyed passing some people (many of whom took revenge on the run).
What would you do differently?:

Looking forward to going faster with more training over the off season
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Again with the shoe thing...after the rain my runners were wet, making it hard to get wet feet into them.
What would you do differently?:

Cover shoes back up with towel to keep them dry!
Run
  • 15m 22s
  • 3 kms
  • 05m 07s  min/km
Comments:

So wanted to run under 15 mins for the final race of the season. I did knock 14 seconds off from last race, so can't be totally dirty on self. Actually, been pretty stoked by overall run improvement since my first ever race in Jan.
Post race
Warm down:

Two cups of gatorade, free 10 min massage. Egg and bacon sandwich and a latte (and buying half -price seried merchandise at end of season sale).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More training! Considering that four months ago I was an office chair potato, totally stoked to have finished four mini-sprints and am really looking forward to continuing training in preparation for stepping up to longer race next season (with the big goal to do the Yeppoon half-ironman in August 2006 for my 40th birthday...brave and crazy!)

Congrtulations on your improvements. I`m sure that if you stick with it you`ll be doing the 1/2 IM in no time. Then you`ll be ready for a full IM on your 50th!

Not the best weather to end the series with, hey?

How's your form? 4 months ago on the couch now triathlete and a decent one at that!

Nice work and enjoy the off season. Good luck with the training.

Another fantastic achievement and the wonderful words of someone who makes this sport what it is - to go from your office and couch to the finish line of these triathlons this season is just incredible and a credit to your effort.
I have NO doubt that you will crack the half IM in 2006.
Bring on the training!!!
Go go go.
