Hey everyone!
Many thanks to all of you who've filled out the survey! It's great to get feedback from everyone, and to make improvements for 2010. Rest assured, we read each and everyone. For those of you who asked us questions on the survey, please keep in mind that the surveys are ANONYMOUS. We don't know who sent them, and can't respond to direct questions posed.

One of the major changes for next year will be to have the Sprint and OLYMPIC, yes, I said Olympic, on Saturday. Our initial plan is to turn the Quarter Iron into a full-blown Olympic, with a 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K run. Moving it from the Half Iron day allows us to do this.

On Sunday, the Half Iron folks will have the day to themselves. What this will also do is allow the Half Iron athletes to start at 7 AM in the morning, which will be much welcomed, according to the surveys.

On Saturday, the Sprint will start at 7 AM, with the Olympic starting at 8:15. We'll keep the split transitions, so Olympic athletes won't need to vacate transition at 7 AM, when the sprint starts.

For the Half Iron, we're looking good to go to a 1 loop bike course, with the roads on the other side of San Luis Pass being repaired as we speak.

The webcasts were a major success, and we look to improve upon that experience for 2010.

With a later date in April for 2010, Palm Beach will also be rarin' to go. The lagoons will be full, so spectators can spend a day on the beach, and be joined by their athletes after the race. Good stuff!

Look for many other improvements. This year, as we've mentioned, was a challenge due to Hurricane Ike's impact. With that in the rear view mirror, expect things to be in great shape for 2010.

We're already excited about it, and welcome feedback from you all on the changes. Please let us know if you like 'em or not. We haven't gone public with it yet, and are looking to you all for guidance!

Best of luck with the rest of your tri season!
Rock on!
Keith

I'm all for the Olympic! I'd prefer the 7am start time, but I can easly make do with 8:15.

And I like Saturday races, so it's a win-win for me.

What's 500m more swimming? No big deal, it's still the shortest part of the race!

I'm thrilled that it will be a true Oly distance!  It gives me a couple of extra minutes before guys start zooming by me on the bike...

On the other hand I was looking forward to doubling up next year on the Sprint and Quarter.  I guess that's out....

Now that you mention it and I looked at the original post, there is actually 1 hr 15 min between starts.  I could even get in about 5 minutes rest between races!!

See... where you used to be limited to doubling up on the Sprint & Half or Sprint and OLY, you can actually do all 3. Awesome.

You could do both the sprint and Oly, AND the half. That'd be cool. Maybe we'll create a special wave, where those doing both on the same day go in the first wave in the sprint, and the last wave in the Oly, so they have time. I think we could arrange that.

We'd have to change the name from TX Two Step, though....

So, you'd have more than 1.25 hrs. I'm guessing you'd have 1.5 hrs. It'd have to be well-orchestrated.

I was thinking about that wave idea on my way into the office this morning. That would be cool.

One thought....you gotta pass by the expo tent to get back to the start line.  So you could have a secure area by the expo to store a second wetsuit, food, etc.. instead of having to go back to the transition area.

I'm hoping to be in a new job by the time this rolls around.

I wonder if it's appropriate to state up front that I have to be available for the WTF?! race before I agree to accept a job (that I haven't been offered yet)...

Awesome.

Damn! And here I thought the sprint-1/2 combo was pretty hard core.

Keith, you just need to come up with a way to do transitions. If you have separate sprint and quarter transitions, what will those folks do? We (and of course I include myself) will need access to get wetsuits and goggles and to reconfigure everything, since one's area is always a disaster after the race. How about special bibs and our own rack? That way we don't have to worry about changing numbers out all weekend.

Okay, let's make results predictions for an event that's not even official yet.

This year, I eased up a little on the sprint and still finished 5th in my AG so decided next year I'd go all out for it and just see what happened in the 1/2. I still like that plan, even throwing the Oly in there. Pushing just a little harder on the bike and run would save me at least 2 minutes. SPRINT TIME: 1:10:00.

I'd probably take it pretty easy on the Oly (if I could make myself). OLY TIME: 2:40:00.

The 1/2 would be the crap shoot. No telling how I'd hold up, but if I put in plenty of volume leading up to it, I think I could stay sub-5 on that course. HALF TIME: 4:55:00

TOTAL: 8:45:00

From the looks of this Keith, this could turn into our own little mini-TTT. From the initial interest already and it's not even official yet, I hope you find a way to make this happen.

I'm not into long distance tri but I'm considering the sprint-oly combo already.

Poor Keith.. if he is considering this, we just threw his plans in a loop. :p

I'm not sure I would do it, I would like to goo 100% at the oly. Then again this really sounds like fun.

oh, we're gonna do it..... You folks fired up about it makes me fired up about it. It doesn't take much Keep throwing out ideas for it, and we'll work on the logistics. I supposed we need to have an "off your rocker" wave, too, for those doing the Half Iron on Sunday. The Trifecta would be very cool....

We do have a mini TTT here in NH, the new Black Fly Tri Weekend, with our Lord of the Flies competition....Bike Time Trial on Friday evening, International Tri on Sat, Sprint on Sunday. Don't be surprised if there's a half iron added to the mix for 2010.

I doubt I'd do a trifecta cause hopefully I'm running Boston the previous week--but the sprint/oly double is so enticing...we'll see.

As for naming it, the "Texas Tornado" for the sprint/oly back to back came to mind...

Texas Tornado is a great name! We could probably start with the open wave for the sprint and then with whatever the last wave of the Oly is. Although would that make us ineligible for AG awards? I still want to try for the sprint.
