Anyone else from here doing this Triathlon?

It was my first Triathlon last year and I am doing it again mostly to see how my training has affected my performance.  I have several other friends also doing it (it was their first last year also) but would love to meet up with any other local BT'ers who might also be there.

I have hopes of doing an other Oly later this year and my first HIM but so far I can't find one that works well with the rest of my summer schedule so I don't know if I will be competing in many others this year.  I am doing the RAMROD bike ride, maybe STP again, and a half Marathon (not sure which yet).

I am doing Cascade Edge Oly. for my first Tri (kind of stupid I know but I am an ambitious idiot, what can I say) and would be happy to meet up with anyone though if I remember right the sprint and the Oly are on different days? (that could be wrong too...hmmm to tired tonight I guess)

The cascades edge was by baptism into the world of triathlon.   Despite the fact that I broke a toe it was  great first time event.  Yes that's right I broke a toe.  Somewhere between getting out of the water and getting on the bike the first digit toe snapped.  I knew something didn't feel right as I was pedaling but kept going.  after T2 I knew something was definitely wrong.  But I finished and medics gave me a big ice pack for my black foot.

I was a great race but there is not a lot of parking available.  This is a good course to do a sprint in the spring and the HIM in the fall.  Gives you a chance to see the course and since both the sprint/HIM are put on by the same people you know what to expect.  I thought it was relatively flat.  Some people complained about the cold water but I thought it was just fine.

You are right about the parking problem. The best best is to pack all your stuff into a backpack so that you can bike from your car to the starting line if necessary. I did that last year and I wouldn't have made it in time otherwise.

It looks to me like the Oly and Sprint might be on the same day, so at least we could meet up briefly.

I did like the event and think it is a good "first time event", but then again I didn't break my toe!!  Oouch!!

I will wait for the PM. I will be the new guy doing the Olympic who looks completely lost and befuddled most of the time. Though actually it will be pretty easy to spot me with my red hair and lots and lots and lots of freckles. Plus look for the tan/goldish trek Hybrid with an uncut stem and that is mine. My transition bag will also say PLU CREW on it.

I am getting excited for the race but also nervous as my training this last month has been somewhat lacking from what it needs to be.

Hey Guys,

My name is Greg, and I'm 40, from Vancouver, Wa. I will be doing this race as my second race, first Olympic. I'm doing my first race ever @ Blue Lake in Gresham, Oregon tomorrow (It's a Sprint). I'm nervous about the swim. I did one open water race so far last month, and it was not pretty or fun.

I will be by myself racing, and I have been training by myself (my wife and daughter will be there for support). So, tri-friends would be nice. I'm going up Thursday evening to camp nearby (Kanaskat Palmer State Park) and check out the course Friday. I'd love to meet any of you pre-race to talk. I'd set up a meeting place and time, but I don't know the area at all. I'm flexible if anyone wants to meet on Friday or Saturday pre-race. If not, good luck to you all.

I will be there around 6:15 on Saturday morning (race day) and could meet up in Transition with anyone. I am going to hit the lake and bike course tomorrow to scope it all out and can post here to let you guys know how the lake looks (clear water, temp, trash etc...). Friday wont work at all for me unfortunately.

Good luck in your tri this weekend!

Justin and Greg,

Hopefully we can meet up at the race.  I don't know exactly when I will be there in the morning but being in the sprint, my start time is a little earlier than either of yours.  There will be at least 2 or 3 other competitors with me.

My race number will be 479.
What are your numbers?

I have not been on the course since last year but the water temps in the lakes I have been swimming is MUCH warmer than last year so that should be a nice change (last year was PRETTY cold!)

My race number is 32. I'm going to try to swim the lake tonight if I get up there in time. I'm nervous about the swim.

Sorry I missed both of you guys!  I tried to look for you on several ocassions while setting up in Transition but being in the Sprint group it made it a little difficult to find those of you in the Oly group.  It seemed more crowded than I remember last year.

The water was a much nicer temperature this year for sure.  And the weather held out ok, I was really concerned on Friday night!!

I had a very rewarding finish, 1st in AG, 9th overall, and a PB.

Now considering either the Black Diamond Oly or HIM.  I have to pass it by the boss but I would really like to do the HIM and save my next Oly for next year.

Nice Job on placing so well 2xtreme! I was just happy to do mine and finish. I was not dead last and actually hit right where I thought I would time wise. Only way to go from here is up!
