Pool Current?

Member 35  BC/NS |  Subject: Pool Current?This sound like a really dumb question, but I was wondering if anyone has noticed currents in their local swimming pools-not the choppy waves that other swimmers churn up, but a steady pull in one direction. I started swimming in September and noticed that it was harder to swim laps one way than the other, but I figured I was imagining it. Recently I started counting strokes and noticed that my stroke count is 3-4 strokes higher going deep-shallow that it is going shallow-deep! It feels harder going that way, too. Any ideas on why this could be? Is the water getting sucked into a filter in the shallow end or something? |

I have my own personal workout where I swim 10 easy lengths, then for the remainder of the swim six hard lengths followed by four recovery lengths. I tell myself that every other length is downhill, ergo easier. Other than that, no. I've not noticed a current in my pool. |

Extreme Veteran 341 Niagara Falls, Ont | Subject: RE: Pool Current? which lane are you in? if you are near a wall, and they have wall inlets (the units that return the water to the pool) and they are all pushing the same way, you can create a current to ensure proper water circulation in a pool. swim in the middle. this is why they shut down the filter system for swim meets (or they are allowed to anyways). |

But there's a pool near my parents house that has a water inlet in the centre of the pool - I end up drifting to the left of the lane going shallow-deep and to the right of the land going deep-shallow |
