A little more than a month out, figured we start a new thread for this new race location.  I'm excited about the race site and plan on doing the swim portion for me and a relay group.  I'll go on and complete my race.  Just doing the sprint version this year though.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Closed bike course on Ellington pkwy...sweet

I plan on doing the sprint since it doesn't require me to tri train. I am really looking forward to that closed bike course!!

I signed up for the sprint last night. I trashed my IT Bands on the CM Half back in April, so I'll stick with sprints the rest of this year.

my wife and I will be doing the sprint version as well and probably one of my friends, will be signing up shortly. Need to practice some OWS as I have never done this before. Looking forward to this event though, as it'll be my 3rd (yes, i'm hooked). Will be doing the Monster this weekend, hope to see some of you out there.

re: it bands, i'm assuming you've been doing the different IT Band stretches? You might consider getting a sports massage, when I was going to PT for a knee issue I had some knots around my IT band that she had to work out, felt 100% better when those were loosened up.. Also had me on some strengthening exercises..

Good luck with it.

Did a 1 hour swim in the Cumberland this morning. Perfect temperature. Water is cleaner than at Percy Priest Lake (Hamilton Marina). The current is not too bad, but will be noticible. Swam upstream for 35 minutes, and back downstream only took 20minutes.

For me, the biggest challenge will be the run. Particularly twice over the Shelby Street pedestrian bridge which I swear is about a 15% grade!!!!

Best to all.

Yeah I noticed that too...pretty dicey looking run course even going up 1st and 3 ave are not going to be easy.  Either way I cant wait to get it on....   Have they decided on how the swim start and exits will be?

I haven't signed up yet, but my wife and I will be doing the Oly race.  It'll be my first race in Nashville since moving here, so I'm pretty excited.  The closed bike course is great!

We entered at the boat ramp in Shelby Bottoms Park. Great parking, Beautiful swimming under the railroad bridge waaay up there. Easy to get in and out of the water. Try this link.

I was thinking the same thing, although doing the sprint requires only one trip accross the bridge, but 1st and 3rd are interesting...

should be a good event! doing the wetdog in decatur, al next weekend as a warmup..

I'm in for the sprint distance - looks like it will be fun.  Any word on whether it will be a wave or time trial start?

Current forecast indicates mid-high 60's to start, and a high of 79.  Oh, and chance of thunderstorms .. . .

let's hope that weather shifts one way or the other... either side of it is sunny and in the 80s for a high.. did someone forget to mention to the weather that it's summer and not spring? loving it for my runs/rides, but swimming... hmmmm

Well, I for one would take it, for the exact reasons you mentioned.  The water temp, whatever it currently is, won't change much over the next few days regardless, and I'd prefer mid 70's for the bike and run.

But as long as the rain holds off, I won't complain either way.

Just looked at the weather.  40% chance of "scattered" thunderstorms.  Hopefully that will be in the afternoon.  As a follow up to Roch's question.  Anyone find out about the swim start.  Wave or time trial.  I've checked the website and it gives no mention of it.

I emailed another question about the race and asked.  The gentleman that emailed me back said it is a time trial start.

Whew! Tough course! First time I have swam in a river against the current and lateral to the current.

The bike was tough too with the wind (was the 1st 2/3 uphill?!?!?) and the run had some serious hills. I'll be back next year though.

9th out of 22 in my AG (45-49).

How did other BT'ers do?

That was too much fun.  You are right on about the bike....I was thinking the same thing.  Uphill, uphill, uphill.....kept thinking have to go downhill at some point.  Then, after the turnaround and finally hit some downhill.....got smacked with the wind.  HA!    The run was brutal.  That pedestrian bridge right from the start about killed me. Great time.  Will do this again!

sure seemed like 2/3 of the bike course was uphill, coupe of nice down hill sections but no where near long enough.. enjoyable ride for sure though.. great to have the entire parkway!

Coming off of the bike and straight into the pedestrian bridge was brutal, followed up by 1st  street couln't get my groove until the downside of 2nd... love/hate relationship there...

Swim was deifinitely hard, my first against a current as well.. don't think my swim was as good as I liked it, but i'll take it (looking forward to seeing the splits).
19/31 in my AG.. was hoping for the top half of the field.. guess I'll have to come back next year and try again!

Orange223, i believe I saw you a number of times throuhout the day, wasn't sure though.. (were you wearing your Hammer gear?).

Yep, I looked just like my avatar.

The humidity didn't help today at all either!

humidity didn't seem to bother me that I noticed.. and yep saw you in the tent, etc.. you were busy talking so didn't want to interrupt.. will catch you next time..

split on the swim was 10:13, not great but not as bad as I thought.. if I could've been consistent in my stroke i would've been easily in the 9 min range.. back to the pool i go...

I had a decent race, 9:21 swim time...of course I thought I was swimming straight until I looked up to see I was drifting downstream...lol  I also yielded to 2 very tired Intermediate racers who were just happy to reach the ladder.  Bike course is deceiving, drove it in the car and it didn't look to bad, however long steady climb, really happy to do the turnaround and get some speed on the downhills... LOVED the closed course.   Ran the course earlier in the week with a 26 min. 5k....however I ran out of gas going up 1st ave and didn't bring it home.  So all in all, I'm pleased, I salute you all who did the long swim...wow had to be tuff swimming upstream.

Loved the venue, it was a blast..will do it again next year
