ITU race on right now on Direct TV channel 637 NYa

I totally forgot that was going on when I was on my ride yesterday.  I noticed something set up on the opposite side of the Potomac and was wondering if they were doing some sort of swim out there.  Wow, that swim was pretty gross.  So much debris in the water

So are most ITU events so lap oriented?  Or was that just because it's hard to close down more streets?  Did I see that right that they did a 1k running loop 6 times?  Blech.

It would be rare to see an ITU event that doesn't have laps for all three events.  The main reason for this is so the spectators can see more of the action without having to run all over the course.



This is a shot from the bleachers in Beijing; the spectators are able to watch the swim, T1, bike laps and run laps without ever moving.  It may not be the most exciting type of venue to race on but it is great for spectating.
