Who's doing it?
Any pointers? With all this rain, the water must be cold...I thought about a sleeveless wetsuit but am quickly changing my mind.
Any tips for parking? Per some race-reports, there are parking lots...is it a zoo getting out after the race? Is street parking recommended for an easier exit?
Are there water stations during the run? (I'm guessing no?)

The 10 day weather forecast gives me some hope for nice weather next saturday...we could use it!

I'm not doing it this year, but I've done it twice. It's a really fun race.

It's an easy swim. Navigation's a breeze--just point yourself between the towers of the Verrazano.

There is plenty of parking, especially if you get there early and the transition racks are first-come-first served, so getting there early is a good idea. You aren't allowed to park on the streets--cops will tow you, but it's a huge beach parking lot, so don't worry about it. It's a little bit of a zoo getting out, but not terrible. I know some people who take the Staten Island Ferry and bike to the race. You have to be on the ferry ridiculously early, like 4am, or something, but you won't be the only one with a bike

Make sure you get good directions or use a GPS if you don't know Staten Island. You have to take the far right exit off the bridge and it's easy to get lost. I've done the race twice and managed to get lost both times on my way there.

There is at least one water/gatorade station on the run. I think there are two, actually.

This will be my 2nd year doing this race- I really like this race -they have tons of food at the end!! Its a fast easy course and yes JMK is right if you get there early parking is not an issue. I just hope the weather is nice like it supposed to be.

First year doing this one. I actually trained quite a bit in this area for a Marathon. Didn't even consider how cold the water may be, will probably be in the low 60's. I only have a sleeveless so I will be wearing that. I hope I don't Freeze.

First time I've raced in this event so no idea about the parking. I'm still debating whether I can take the pain of a very early ferry / train ride from Manhattan.

According to the nearby NOAA buoy water temps look like they'll be at least high 60s (see http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=sdhn4), despite the recent weather, so I'll be going for the sleeveless option.

Have a good race and let's hope the weather is as forecast - even as a Englishman I am sick of all the rain!

I'm not doing it this year but did it last year (it was my first tri!) and it was fun. The swim wasn't cold at all so I wouldn't worry about that. The water was interesting and there were jellyfish even though it's early in the season. I echo jmk's suggestion to get there early otherwise you'll get an unpleasant spot in transition since the spots aren't assigned. People who got there late last year were begging for others to make room for them. The run is HOT and there is zero shade so just be ready for that if it's actually warm (finally) in NY. Have fun everyone, it's a great local race!

This is my first year doing it. I hear it is a fun race. Don't know about parking situation but I thought that I read somewhere that they don't open the parking lots back up to leave until a certain time??Wondering if there are jellyfish there this year. I have a major jellyfish phobia!

They can't open the parking lot until after the last cyclist is off the course, since the bike course is four loops of the road that runs beside the parking lot, but, unless you're really fast and in an early wave, by the time you finish the run, eat some post-race food, and pack up your stuff, the lot should be open.

So in that case the lot should be open long before I am ready to leave!

There were jellyfish last year. They were right up on the beach while we were waiting to get in and I got stung once. The jellies were earlier in the season last year though, maybe the cold weather will keep them away!

And I'll just wager a guess there will be this year too In NY there are inevitably jellies.

This is such a fun race. Save some energy for the push up contest afterwards.  I have done it a few times but this year I will volunteer and enjoy the very special and always entertaining Joe P on the microphone....

OK - who do we need to talk to in order to make the rain stop? With all this rain, one would think I'd at least have the benefit of growing webbed hands or feet to help me in this sport, but no such luck!
