Who's doing it?
Any pointers? With all this rain, the water must be cold...I thought about a sleeveless wetsuit but am quickly changing my mind.
Any tips for parking? Per some race-reports, there are parking lots...is it a zoo getting out after the race? Is street parking recommended for an easier exit?
Are there water stations during the run? (I'm guessing no?)
The 10 day weather forecast gives me some hope for nice weather next saturday...we could use it!
I'm not doing it this year, but I've done it twice. It's a really fun race.
It's an easy swim. Navigation's a breeze--just point yourself between the towers of the Verrazano.
There is plenty of parking, especially if you get there early and the transition racks are first-come-first served, so getting there early is a good idea. You aren't allowed to park on the streets--cops will tow you, but it's a huge beach parking lot, so don't worry about it. It's a little bit of a zoo getting out, but not terrible. I know some people who take the Staten Island Ferry and bike to the race. You have to be on the ferry ridiculously early, like 4am, or something, but you won't be the only one with a bike
Make sure you get good directions or use a GPS if you don't know Staten Island. You have to take the far right exit off the bridge and it's easy to get lost. I've done the race twice and managed to get lost both times on my way there.
There is at least one water/gatorade station on the run. I think there are two, actually. |
