Going through the VRBO listings and making calls about houses to lease for Coeur d'Alene next year and finding that the houses are renting for 2.5-3 times the normal weekly rate.  Is this the going Ironman week rate or am I supposed to negotiate a more reasonable price?

It might be helpful to know how much did you rent your place for this year and where were you - in town or out around the lake?

Thanks for the help.

When McFuzz registered last year we began looking for a place immediately.  Everybody wanted a 5 night minimum AND their rates were at least 2x their normal rates.  For us, it was cheaper to stay in a B&B that was within 6 blocks of transition than to stay at a hotel that we would have to drive from.  Our lodging was $250 per night and the resort was asking for $450 per night.  Most of the hotels were asking around 150-200 per night and no discounts were allowed for things like AARP, AAA, etc.

My guess is that the closer you get to the race site the more expensive the rooms will be.  I would be shocked to hear that Spokane (40 minutes out) or Liberty Lake (20 minutes out) have jacked up rates.  Post Falls (15 minutes) might bump their rates but they probably do not have a minimum stay.  However, if you want to stay within walking distance you are going to pay for it.

I stayed at the Super 8 in CDA.  $85/night, no minimum # nights, 'frige and microwave if you ask for a room with them, about 10 min drive to transition...perfectly fine place to stay for a non-vacation IM.  (208) 765-8880.  CDA is an awesome venue

I was thinking of pulling a camper.

Has anyone had any experience with the local campgrounds?

Thanks,

Pinto Racer -
I stayed at Blackwell Island RV park last year in an RV. Not super scenic, but it's 5 minutes from everything. They have full hookups, laundry etc. It worked for us.
