Subject: TYR Goggles... What the???
I accidentally left my TYR goggles at the pool a couple weeks ago, then left town for a week long conference.  When I got back and went to the pool, I asked if they had seen them.  They had them in the lost and found, but in the time that I'd been gone, they allowed other swimmers to use them.  (I can't get mad at them.  I was the one that left them there, and I was gone for two full weeks.  With nobody claiming them, they probably figured that they were abandoned.)

Unfortunately, when being used by other swimmers, they scratched the he** out of the lenses.  Prior to me leaving them behind, they looked like this:

TYR Technoflex Vision Metallized goggles

Anyway.... I'm looking to get some new scratchless goggles, so I went to a local sports store to check out their selection of TYR goggles and was SO disappointed by what I saw.  What's up with the Ultra-Trendy Mega-Stylish How-Much-Silly-Plastic-Can-I-Add goggle selection like this?

TYR Nest Pro goggles

They didn't have any of the goggles that I got last year, so I ended up getting a pair of Nike goggles, but they don't suction to my left eye.  (Oddly shaped face, I guess.)  Looks like I'll go online to buy 2-3 pair of my favorite goggles.

Why does this style bug me so much?  Am I just getting old and ornery?

hmm sorry to hear about that, but the goggles you showed in the picture that you don't like are actually some of the best goggles out there in terms of comfort, fogging, scratching, and leakage. I've heard great things about the TYR nest pro goggles which I believe is the one in the picture...I wouldn't judge a googles by looks, but than again you gotta like what you wear! I think they look cool. I just ordered a pair for myself cause the Kaimans I always wear start leaking after about 2 months of use.

Yeah... I've read pretty good things about them, too.  I guess I just find something that I like and stick with it, and when I saw this new and updated style, I was let down a bit.  Sigh.

No matter, though.  I went on SwimOutlet.com and found my goggles (metallic and regular) for a great price, and I'm probably going to splurge and get some fins, too.

That bottom goggle is the nest pro, and it's modeled from the Beijing olympics. And don't knock em til you've tried them. I tried a pair after reading Steve Larsen's glowing review, and gave up the Tyrs I had been wearing faithfully for years and years. They are WONDERFUL.

I found that by saving the plastic case the Tyr goggles come in and placing it conspicuously in my gym bag (inside a shoe, no way to overlook it) leaving them behind is not an issue, and really helps extend the life of the lens surface too.

As for how they look, I can't see what they look like on me and therefore can't be occupied with caring about it.

I use the TYR Socket Rockets and I love them to no end. I hope they never stop making them so I don't ever have to switch.

I use TYR Racetech goggles. I buy them 3-4 at a time. I put them back into the plastic cover and then back into the plastic box. I have a seperate pair for races that I always swim in my last practice before a race. After that they go back into the box until the next race.

When you find a pair of goggles that you like and fit well, buy a bunch.
