Like a fool, I went from 30 miles per week to 95 miles per week in a six week period. I have kept an average of about 18 miles running so I am certain it was the increase on the bike. My legs are not in too bad of shape, but i have been really slow (relative) the past week and a half. For instance:

Bike- 19 mph to 16.5 mph
Run- 8 minute mile to 11 minute mile

I took three days off last week and it did nothing.

Oh, I am a 34 year old male, 180lbs.

I have a sprint in three weeks, an oly in August and a HIM in October.

Any advise?

JAson

I'd have to think that a week off--completely off--might be a good thing for you. At least drop back to minimal mileage at a recovery pace.

Good news is that you're not really overtrained--that's a whole neurologic/endocrine/physiologic mess that means a lot more than just running too much...

so you kept your run volume constant and you increased your bike volume by 65 miles over 6 weeks and you feel overtrained? Are you following a plan? You have nothing on your logs so it is hard to say what's happening, most likely your training load was a bit much for your current fitness level, you are adapating to it and you need an unload week (train very easy or even take a few days off) to absorb it all until you feel normal and then get back to training with a lower training load.

Where do you live?  My training paces drop a ridiculous amount now that it's pushing 100 degrees outside.

With no info on your logs, it's really hard to tell you anything other than rest up and make sure you don't over do it based on your current fitness level.

Good point about the heat.  Couple other things to look at are changes in sleep pattern, changes in diet, changes in the amount of fluids you're taking in, etc.  Keeping a log, whether public or private, will help you look at all those factors along with your training.

But, if you think it's the increase in cycling miles, maybe take it easy on the bike for a bit while having a week of two or run or swim focus.

OK

I updated my training log as much as I could. Don't look at the swim log because i had no way to go back.

So I obviously jumped pretty quickly on the bike. I have not biked or run this week at all. just swam three days.

i am interested to see how my run goes Monday morning.
