Hello all,

I am new to this website and wanted to ask about elevation changes.  I just signed up for the 2010 IMCDA.  This will be my second IM.  I noticed after the fact that the elevation is higher than where I currently train and reside.  The race starts at 2,100feet in elevation and the peak at 2,600feet in elevation.  By the way, I live and train in New Jersey/NY area which is at or even slightly below sea level.  For any of you biology majors out there.  Is this a big elevation difference from what I am use to?  Do I have to get to the race a week or so earlier to let my body adapt?  Or can I just get there a day or two before and still perform at my best because the elevation change isnt high enough to cause a problem.??  Any guidance will help and extreme amount

No, it should not be a problem.  Week's adaptation not necessary.

+2. Most people don't think altitude becomes an issue until around 4500 feet.

I didn't notice any difference from Chicago (at sea level) to CDA.  I got there on Thursday night and was fine for the race.  I don't think you need to be there for a week.  Go in Wednesday or Thursday and enjoy the experience.

Matt

P.S.  Welcome to BT

I'm from Louisiana which in some parts is below sea level.  I didn't have any problems in Idaho.  That was the most fun I've had on a bicycle in my life.
