Trisport Canada & Subaru Triathlon Series
25C / 77F
Sunny
Total Time = 45m 25s
Overall Rank = 45/347
Age Group = M30-39
Age Group Rank = 12/61
Pre-race routine:

This was to be my second reace since my heart surgery. Since the race two weeks earlier was a disaster, I was hoping to make ammends.
I had not trained much since the recovery.

Event warmup:

some practice strokes in the water a few minutes before my wave
Swim
  • 10m 17s
  • 375 meters
  • 02m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Nice swim. The sun did blinded me becasue I used my comfy clear swim mask.

Halfway through the swim, some jerk decided I was too slow and the best way to get past me was to go straight over the top of me. What a jerk. I can understand if this was a competative race (IM,HIM or olympic) but this was a Try-a-Tri, and quite a few novices were really terrified and strugglnig in the water. Fortunately this did not throw my swimming off much. It did piss me off though.

The venue moved a few hunderd meters down the shore becasue the lake water had high bacteria count. The water was still kinda icky.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my tinted goggles instead of my clear swim-mask.

Don't let little things upset me. Zen... Tranquillity now....
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No T1 time in this race series... but my T1 sucked.
I forgot where I put my bike and I was wearing my crappy old contact lenses.
Wet suit was stuck and why did I decide I needed socks for a Tri-a-tri?
Bike
  • 21m 1s
  • 10 kms
  • 28.55 km/hr
Comments:

Decent bike. I was rocking and rolling until about the 9km mark - i just blew past the swimming jerk when my right calf went spastic and cramped up like a rock. I finished the last km using on leg.
What would you do differently?:

train more bike
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 14m 6s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

That calf made runnig a pain. I looked like a peg-leg sailor hobbling along.
Post race
Warm down:

Relaxed with the kids and wife.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Out of shape and back over 200lbs.
BUT IT FELT GOOD TO BE RACING TRIATHLONS AGAIN.
