Comments: Felt well in control the whole way. Pace was amazingly even. Started to get a tight / tired L) hamstring at 18 km but it didn't worsen and I was able to continue at race pace. What would you do differently?: Not be injured and have that interrupt the training schedule!! Compared to the planned volume I ended up doing less than 50%! I am confident that the new shoes and orthotics will have fixed this recurring injury issue going forward. Bring on 2010! Post race
Warm down: None really! Had to wait for the Kel to finish the 5 km and retrieve the pack with all the goods - beer included! Then had to wait for Kev to finish the marathon ( a 4 1/2 hr epic instead of sub 3hrs because of an injured hamstring) before I could walk back to the apartment for a much needed shower and sleep. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing on the day. Nutrition and fluid intake were good, conditions were excellent, pace judgement spot on, mental effort good. Just needed to have more mileage under my belt..... Event comments: The race really stepped up in professionalism this year. Better organisation at the start with clearly marked "finishing time" start zones , more space afterwards to spread out, better finishing line, better medals and shirts, etc. Better in all aspects. Up at 4:45am. 3 hrs sleep because I watched the prologue of the Tour de France! Woke refreshed nonetheless. Muffin, 2x coffees. Banana just before the start.
5 mins of running, some strteching and then into the start corral.
