Where can I look for bike shoes in the central MD area? I'm in Ellicott City. I think I had an easier time getting the new bike than I will getting shoes/pedals for it.

x2 on the Race Pace.  Those guys seem to know their stuff.  Talk to Kevin - he's the resident IM triathlete (not the Kevin in the shop, the Kevin on the floor.. I think his last name is Dolan).

I don't really know. Kind of clueless here. I want shoes that will connect to whatever pedals I get.

Kevin is in the Columbia store and his last name is Dolan just like Christy said.  Are you looking at a new bike?  What type of pedals do you have right now?

I have speedplays and like them alot.  Very light in weight and the ability to clip in from multiple sides is very convient.

I bought a new bike last month - Cannondale Synapse 5. I have regular pedals on there now.

By regular pedals do you mean typical ones that will come on a "walmart/Kmart" bike?

Yes. They were not supposed to come with the bike. The bike model does not come with pedals. But they left them on there after my test ride. So it was nice to have them at first, but having some pedals has delayed me in looking for the pedals/shoes I want.

I am also looking for shoes and pedals.  I found a pair on the REI website.  Any comments about REI?
I am a new to triathlons, having completed two while biking in running shoes.  However, I have enjoyed success, averaging 18 to 19 mph and winning my age group.  So I am a little nervous about bike shoes.

Pat, you averaged that high with just running hsoes on the bike!!? That's great.

I love REI. I actually purchased my shoes from Hudson Trail Outfitters in Annapolis which is another fun store.

Running shoes, yes!  I just bought some shoes at REI.  Thanks for the plug.  I found a pair in the clearance bin for under $25.  The original price is $90.  I checked on line and could not find them anywhere for less than $70.  I am heading back to REI with my bike to get new pedals.

Are you a member?  It sounds like it is worth the price to join.  I really felt comfortable with the bike people.
