Subject: Ladies - A Chamois Question...
Hey,

So I have a problem.  (Okay - lots of problems - but this one is currently annoying me most...)  The chamois in my shorts isn't far enough "forward" to provide enough protection for the front of my pelvic bone.  I'm getting bruised and irritated from spending time in aero without a lot of padding there.

I'm wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing and if they have found a short that is better than others?  I currently have a set of Pearl Izumi and a set of Giordana.  Both seem to have more padding in the butt than in the front.

Any ideas or insight?

Zoot Ultra Tri Shorts.

I've got the same problem with my 2XU shorts. Zoots wrap around enough

(Not a lady but hope it's worth the electrons used to post this message)

I have the same problem.  For my long training rides I was wearing Pearl Izumi sugar shorts and they had too little in the front and too much in the back.  I recently purchased a pair of Castelli Visio bike short and they are AWESOME!  Great all around chamois.  I found them at a LBS for $130 and then found them online for $85.  http://www.sportsbasement.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=L7039-08!Cast  They are not tri shorts but I can't wear tri shorts for long rides anyway.

How is the sizing on the women's Castelli shorts?  I've been contemplating a purchase, but I'm hesitant since I've never actually tried a pair on (not many LBS carry Castelli for women) and don't know if I need a M or L.  I normally wear a M in Pearl Izumi, and a L in Shebeest...so far, those are the only 2 brands of cycling shorts that I wear right now.   I would LOVE to try a pair of the Castelli Totally Free cycling bibs...but the price...OUCH!!!

I tried on several different pairs of Zoot shorts today and you were correct.  They were the only ones that had the padding wrap around.  Unfortunately no where I went today had the 3" ones...

Thanks so much for your response! It really helped!!

Castelli seems to run true to size.  I took a Large in the Castelli.  I did try on the Castelli Jerseys they had in stock and took a Large in those too.  For reference I normally wear a size 8 jeans.  I am 5'9" 150lbs, on the curvy side of the spectrum.  Hope that helps! For what its worth, I have a few castelli items and they hold up well, even through machine washings.  IMO its worth the $$ and if you can find it on sale get 2!

I really like the Canari Pro gel cycling shorts. Not only is the pad great - but the leg grippers are good as well.

I had the same problem when I was riding on the saddle that my bike came with.  I switched to a Blackwell Research Mo Flo saddle which is specifically designed for aero position and what a difference!  For one thing, it has the cut-away area in the middle.  For another thing, the nose of it really drops away.  Have you tried different saddles?

Good point!!  Mine's been great - except now that I'm spending 3hrs or so in aero I'm having trouble.  I hadn't considered that.  I have a brand new saddle that I haven't tried yet that is tri-specific - maybe I'll give that a go.  Thank you!
