Subject: Recovery Time & Next Race

Hello

My first race is on 16 August.  My brother wants me to race with him down in Florida two weeks after my race. 

I think that I will be worn out for 3 to 5 days after finishing my first Sprint.  I was thinking 4 weeks after my first race I would be ready to go again and this would give me event to key in on to keep the training going. September is college football and I am not sure how the training & tailgating are going to mix.   I think after the September race I will  go into a prolonged fall/winter program of swimming, bike rides & running improvement with a focus on next season. 


So how long is the recovery for us big guys (6'5" 260)after our first sprint event?

How many weeks between events?

Two weeks would be fine. I don't think I'd do back to back weekends, but race one weekend, a couple of days to recover then start working out easily again, one or two hard workouts, then taper for next race - sounds very doable to me.

Also, you might find that you actually do better in the 2nd race because your body WILL adapt to the stresses you place on it.

I think two weeks is enough time as well, but maybe to be on the safe side take it a little easy during this first race?

I think it depends on your conditioning level going into the race.  If you feel good and have recovered well from some back to back intense training, you should be good for a race 2 weeks out.  If you find you need rest to come back from a tough training day, you might want to set your goals more conservitively. 

2weeks is a good amount of time for sprints (unless your doing 1 every 2 weeks for several months in a row).
