Subject: Seat Height Quandry
I have a halfIM this weekend. Last couple of weeks I spent more time on my tri-bike than my road bike. Riding yesterday I realized that I was riding a flat loop slower on my tri-bike than on my road bike. I started doing some measuring when I got home and my tri-bike seat is almost two inches lower than it should be. So, having logged a couple of hundred miles at that seat height, do I raise it for the race (contrary to everything that I have read about changing things for the first time on race day) or do I leave it where it is and give up some speed? (And yes, I am apparently oblivious.) Thanks.

ouch.

I would put it up, i ride with my tri seat about 1 cm over my road bike (tri bike i have one spot i sit on the saddle, road bike i move around depending on what i am doing).

so i would personally put that sucker up, at least closer to the road bike, 2in is a LOT

A bit too little too late.

You should NEVER make drastic changes to your position unless it is your initial fit up.  I would not move it more than an inch at most.  You simply do not have enough time to adapt physically to changes that radical so soon.  After the race, you can incrementally race it up until it is at the right position.

Wow 2 inches.  Personally I would move it.  Sounds like you have been riding both bikes.  I make minor adjustments to mine from time to time and depending on what I am wearing but never more than 1/4" or maybe 3/8" max.  I can't imagine my seat being 2" off.  I would have thought your knees would be killing you.

Wait, two inches different than where it USED to be, or different than your road bike? has it always been there? Were you comfortable? Just b/c you went out and road one day and were slower than average, I don't know if that's concrete evidence--assuming you mean that you want to raise it just b/c it's different than your road bike (and not it's slipped two inches sicne you had it fit). I mean, in GENERAL I'm faster on a tri bike than a road, but that doesn't mean every single day I ride I am., you know?

thats what I"m wondering... has the seat post slowly slipped down over time on your tri bike, or are you saying that it's 2inches different than your road bike and you have never noticed that it was different until now..   In the past have you measured the road and tri bike??  were they ever the same??

If you're faster on your road bike, why don't you just ride that one in the race? Then you can get a better time, and worry about the tri-bike fit next week.
