Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wear a Blue Seventy Reaction suit right now--not the bottom of the line, but nothing high-end either. I've been noticing when I swim in it that I'm fighting the suit a little, i.e. to extend my arm all the way I'm stretching the suit in the shoulders a bit. I know the Helix is supposed to be a lot more flexible in the shoulders, but I guess I'm trying to figure out how much of the tightness in the shoulders is the suit itself and how much of it would go away with a size change. The rest of the suit fits great, though. Ideas? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The obvious response is hike up the suit in the crouch as much as possible to give more room in the shoulders.... assuming you did this: |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bigger size. Happened to me with an Xterra suit and I returned it for a size exchange, no problem. You should not feel as though the suit is in any way pulling your shoulders down into your torso or otherwise constricting your stroke. If it does, then you'll be better served by a larger size. Upgrading in the same manufacturer's line without changing size is almost certain to leave you with a more expensive suit that you can't swim in any better than the one you have now. |

Guess I should try a new size... Of course I've had it since last fall and hadn't really been swimming enough to know what I should be looking for, so I'm well outside any windows for a free exchange. Bummer. |

Member![]() | ![]() I have the same suit and the same problem. I assumed that the problem was how I put it on, but after a few tries with different techniques I rented a sleeveless. Eventually I'm going to look to another brand that's cut differently. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dr. Pete- When you have your wetsuit on, is there space between the suit and your skin in the crotch and armpits? Any space at all? If the answer is yes in any of these areas, you've found your problem. Remember that a wetsuit should not cover the ankles and wrists. My suit is nearly 3 inches above my ankles and 2 inches above my wrists. If the answer is no, and there isn't any space between you and the suit in the pits/crotch then I would recommend looking at a larger size or possibly a different line of suit. Each company is different. Always try suits on before buying unless you're certain of the size in the suit you're purchasing. The online size charts are pretty confusing. Profile/Aquaman's chart has me in a medium. I wear an extra small. Just an FYI. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I too, had the exact same problem with my Blue Seventy Reaction suit...and I'm a female, but very broad across shoulders and lats. I had zero range of motion with my arms/shoulders in the Reaction suit. When I put the suit on (and yes, it was on properly)...my arms would just extend out to my sides, I could not simulate a stroke at all, because it was too constricting. I ended up selling it here in the BT classifieds. I will most likely look into an Xterra Vortex 3 sleeveless suit as my next option. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looking at the Xterras... seem like a nice suit, and people with fit issues in other suits seem happy with them. And of course, I'm between sizes on their chart. I think I'll just knock off a couple pounds in anticipation of some continued weight loss--then I'll be in the zone. ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My BlueSeventy is sized bigger than recommended for my height, but it was a complete no-go due to my chest and lats being too big for the suit. I nearly drowned in my first tri with it on, as it dragged my arms down completely despite hiking the crotch up into super-wedgie position. The Xterra worked fine for me, albeit I went longjohn on that one. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You might want to try a Desoto two piece. I went through 4 different suits before thankfully finding Desoto......because its two pieces all shoulder constriction is eliminated. Just a thought. ![]() |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was completely new to wetsuits. Purchased an Xterra Vendetta (High end) and it seemed to fit really well. But without any reference I was not really sure. It was very tight but not unbearable. |

![]() | ![]() I had the same problem with my QR wesuit. It fit, but seemed really tight in the shoulders. Got all kinds of feedback about how to wear/tug the suit up farther. But swimming in it was hell. Caused extreme arm fatigue. I, too, waited too long, and was unable to return it. Seems like a perfectly good suit, just not sized right for me. I have broad shoulders, and am kind of all over curvy ![]() I bought a DeSoto 2-piece, and absolutely LOVE it! In warmer water, I just wear the bibs, in colder water (like the recent racine triathlon) I wear the whole thing. Perfect range of motion. It swims great. I thing a cheaper option would be a longjohn. But due to my cold water wussiness, I am happy with my DeSoto. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For some reason I just prefer the idea of a good 1-piece suit... It's funny--the folks at TriSports were telling me a QR suit is perfect for broad shoulders... I decided to take advantage of a sale on the Xterra vector pro x2, thanks in no small part to the 30-day return policy--that'll let me get at least a couple OWSs and a race in to make sure the fit is good. Very helpful customer service too... We'll see. In the mean time, someone's selling a lightly used Blue Seventy Reaction in a size L in the Classifieds... ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Update--Got my Vector Pro X2 a couple days ago. Ordered online from Xterra, they shipped it same day. WOW, now I know what a wetsuit is supposed to feel like. All the neoprene fits nice and snug under my arm and there's tons more flexibility than in my old suit. I couldn't believe the difference in range of motion with my arms--very impressive. I have yet to swim in it but I think my days of fighting the wetsuit are over. Kudos to the folks at Xterra also for helping me choose the right size over the phone/internet and making it a pleasant buying experience... Edited by DrPete 2009-07-30 3:47 PM |
