Tri is where Lance started, after all. Seems like he will be quite good at it... again.

I'm assuming that means Johan Bruyneel ends up team manager?

With plans for 2010 Tour, I doubt there will be much of anything other than cycling.

If he does Tri again, I would place my bet they would have enough volunteers for the race.

Well, to be accurate, it doesn't say he'll do them in 2010. It says "beginning in 2010" he'll be competing for Radio Shack.

Tough to pick any triathlons he would do while also riding the Tour next year. He's not likely to do anything before July. Kona is early October, which gives him barely 2 months to get ready after the Tour ends. Could he do it? Almost certainly. Would it give him the chance to perform as well as he would probably want? Almost certainly not. He could probably get well trained for IMFL, but that's just not nearly as big a media stage as Kona.

I'd like to see otherwise, but I figure triathlons won't be in the mix until he re-retires from pro cycling. Of course, he could certainly get more than ready for Longhorn right here in Austin in mid-October. Keith, have your people call his people!

Good point on the "beginning in 2010" thing.

Seems to me Lance is more motivated right now to bring attention to the Livestrong cause than to achieving the pinnacle of sport again.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him do a couple high profile olympic tris for just that reason, maybe even in 2010.  I would be surprised to see him do an IM in 2010 since it seems clear he's zeroing in on the TdF next year and an IM would be too much of a distraction/disruption.

He did Twitter that there would be a "cool announcement on Thursday re: a new American partner for our team in 2010 and beyond".  Not sure if that means Astana no longer or what...sounds like he'll still be focused on riding though.

You have a point about the "beginning of 2010."  But honestly I don't think it would matter if he did Kona, IMFL, or even some high end Olympic tTris.  Because his LAST concern I'm sure is not having a big enough media... he's LANCE ARMSTRONG!  Where he goes, the media goes.  I will say if he starts doing triathlons again be prepared to have the sport of triathlons and the medias curiosity about the sport grow rapidly.  IMO...

Astana will continue next year, but without a lot of the current riders and staff.  Vinokorouv is returning to competition and since he is the whole reason the Astana team came about he wants it all to focus on him.  One rumor I read was that the "new" team of lance will have Horner, Levi, and Wiggins (though I am skeptical about the Wiggins part).

There's a very funny article about this very same question on The Onion.  There's a link in the one of the TDF threads.

I also heard a rumor about cav joining the squad, which I don't really care about.  it would be cool, though, if Big George rejoined LA for another go at the TDF.

If TeamRadioShack pulls in Lance, Levi, Wiggins and Cavendish, that would be a super team.  Get Big George and you can write all other teams out of Le Tour.
